Jesus,

As I journey with You today, please help me to thank You all through the day.

This practice makes it more feasible for me to pray without ceasing, as the apostle Paul taught.

I long to be able to pray continually, and thanking You in every situation facilitates this pursuit.

My thankful prayers provide a solid foundation on which I can build all my other prayers.

Moreover, it’s so much easier for me to communicate freely with You when I have a grateful attitude.

If I keep my mind occupied with thanking You, I’m less likely to fall into hurtful patterns of worrying or complaining.

I’ve seen that when I practice thankfulness consistently, negative thought patterns gradually grow weaker and weaker.

A grateful heart opens up the way for me to draw near to You.

And Your glorious Presence fills me with Joy and Peace.

In Your Name, Jesus,

Amen

Jesus,

Help me to trust You and not be afraid.

Many things seem out of control, and my routines are not running smoothly.

I feel much more secure when the circumstances of my life are more predictable.

Please lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Lord, I long to take refuge in the shelter of Your wings—where I am absolutely secure.

When I’m shaken out of my comfortable routines, I need to grip Your hand tightly and look for opportunities to grow.

I can accept the challenge of something new—refusing to waste energy bemoaning the loss of my comfort.

Protect me from adding to my difficulties by anticipating problems that could possibly arise in the future.

I recognize this tendency for what it is: grasping for control.

Instead of worrying about tomorrow, I want to relax in Your Presence and trust You to help me deal with problems as they come.

Rather than dreading my difficulties, I invite You to use them to transform me from one degree of Glory to another—making me fit for Your kingdom.

In Your Name, Jesus,

Amen,

Lord,

Please help me learn to appreciate difficult days rather than becoming distressed.

As I journey through rough terrain with You, I gain confidence from knowing that together we can handle anything.

This knowledge is based on three blessings:

Your Presence continually with me, Your many promises, and my past experiences of coping successfully by depending on You.

When I look back on my life, I can see how much You have helped me through difficult days in the past.

Yet I easily fall into the trap of thinking, “Yes, but that was then, and this is now.”

Instead, I need to remember that though my circumstances change immensely, You remain the same throughout time and eternity.

As I live close to You, I’m aware of Your loving Presence which allows me to confidently get through tough times.

In Your Name, Jesus,

Amen

Jesus,

Help me not to dwell on the past.

I can learn from the past, but I don’t want it to be my focus.

I know I cannot undo things that have already occurred, no matter how hard I try.

So I come to You and pour out my heart—remembering that You are my refuge, worthy of my trust at all times.

One way I can build up my confidence in You is to tell You frequently: “I trust You, Lord.”

Speaking these affirmations of trust brightens my day immensely—blowing away dark clouds of worry.

I’m learning that You can make a way where there appears to be no way.

With You all things are possible!

In Your Name, Jesus,

Amen,

Isaiah 43:18-19
Psalm 62:8
Matthew 19:26

Refusing to Wait on God

God’s timing is always perfect, trust Him even when it’s hard to wait.

It’s always best to follow God’s timing, but inevitably, there will be times when we get it wrong.

For instance, even the right thing done at the incorrect time can leave us vulnerable to sin or postpone the blessings God has planned for us.

By refusing to wait on the Lord, we often cause ourselves needless grief.

For example, if we spend beyond our means to purchase alluring but unnecessary things, we could end up struggling to pay for our debts.

But when we manage money in accordance with biblical principles, we’ll have freedom and peace of mind.

Here’s another example:

Quitting a job before the Lord has released us from it can short-circuit what He planned to teach us, had we remained.

We might subsequently discover that if we’d held on a while longer, God would have changed either our circumstances or our attitude about the situation.

Certain character qualities are necessary if we are to develop a natural inclination to wait on the Lord.

We need patience to endure our present situation and steadfastness to carry out our current responsibilities.

In addition, we must have courage to trust the Lord as we await His solution in the midst of our discomfort.

Psalm 27:7-14
Isaiah 40:31

Jesus,

As I come to the end of this year, I need to take some time to look back—and also to look ahead.

Please guide me as I review the highlights of this year: hard times as well as good times.

Help me to see You in these memories, for I know You have been close beside me every step of the way.

When I was clinging to You for help in the midst of tough times, You comforted me with Your loving Presence.

You were also richly present in circumstances that filled me with great Joy.

You were with me on the mountain peaks, in the valleys, and everywhere in between!

My future stretches out before me, all the way into eternity, and You are the Companion who will never leave me—the Guide who knows every step of the way ahead.

The Joy that awaits me in heaven is inexpressible and full of Glory!

As I prepare to step into a new year, I ask for Your glorious Light to shine upon me and brighten the path before me.

In Your Name, Jesus,

Amen

I AM WORKING ON YOUR BEHALF.

Bring Me all your concerns, including your dreams.

Talk with Me about everything, letting the Light of My Presence shine on your hopes and plans.

Spend time allowing My Light to infuse your dreams with life, gradually transforming them into reality.

This is a very practical way of collaborating with Me.

Do not try to hurry this process.

If you want to work with Me, you have to accept My time frame.

Hurry is not in My nature.

Abraham and Sarah had to wait many years for the fulfillment of My promise, a son.

How their long wait intensified their enjoyment of this child!

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses.

In an attempt to conform and/or adjust to societal norms we often find ourselves trying hard to fit in. Once I accepted who and whose I am, I then realized I was "Already Her"!

Lord,

Help me to trust You and not be afraid, remembering that You are my Strength and my Song.

It blesses me to ponder what it means to have You as my Strength.

You spoke the universe into existence, Your Power is absolutely unlimited!

When I face my weakness and entrust it to You, Your Power can flow freely into me.

However, I’ve found that my fears can hinder the flow of Your Strength.

I’ve learned that trying to fight my fears is counterproductive, this keeps me focused on fear rather than on You.

Instead, I need to concentrate on Your great faithfulness.

When I relate to You in confident trust, there’s no limit to how much You can strengthen me.

In Your Name, Jesus,

Amen

Jesus,

Help me to think Your thoughts more and more.

When the worries of this world are pressing down on me, I need to take time to think things out in Your Presence.

As I relax with You, Your everlasting arms enfold me in Peace.

It’s such a blessing to take a break from obsessing about my concerns—and just enjoy this time of looking to You.

I like to intersperse quietness with reading Scripture and speaking or singing praises to You.

Thank You for guiding me to use Bible verses in my prayers and petitions.

When my prayers are permeated with Scripture, I’m able to pray with more confidence.

I long to be transformed by the renewal of my mind.

The world exerts massive amounts of pressure on me through ever-present electronic communications.

Instead of letting the world press me into its mold, I ask You to transform the way I think.

As You gradually renew my mind, I yearn for my thoughts and attitudes to reflect You in ever-increasing measure.

In Your Name, Jesus,

Amen

EXPECT TO ENCOUNTER ADVERSITY in your life, remembering that you live in a deeply fallen world.

Stop trying to find a way that circumvents difficulties.

The main problem with an easy life is that it masks your need for Me.

When you became a Christian, I infused My very Life into you, empowering you to live on a supernatural plane by depending on Me.

Anticipate coming face to face with impossibilities: situations totally beyond your ability to handle.

This awareness of your inadequacy is not something you should try to evade.

It is precisely where I want you—the best place to encounter Me in My Glory and Power.

When you see armies of problems marching toward you, cry out to Me!

Allow Me to fight for you.

Watch Me work on your behalf, as you rest in the shadow of My Almighty Presence.

Amen
