Strength training is a crucial component to any workout regimen.

Research shows that after just 3 weeks of strength training, muscle begins to grow, replacing fat, while the body manages blood sugar more efficiently. When you increase your muscle mass, you boost your metabolism and that makes your body burn more calories, even at rest. Adding just 2 weight training sessions a week can reduce body fat by 7%. If you are a beginner, start with 2-3 times a week performing a mix of body weight exercises and weights that will challenge you to perform 8-12 repetitions for at least 1 set per muscle group.

Resistance training also boosts dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin, making it a natural antidepressant.
