Not everything is within your control and learning to accept that can be one of the most freeing things you do for yourself. Holding on too tightly to outcomes situations or people often creates more tension than peace. When you begin to let go of what you cannot change you create space for calm clarity and a deeper sense of balance in your life.

What if the most powerful part of therapy… is simply being seen?

On this episode of Therapist Voices @ ReachLink, Jodi Mullen, PhD, LMHC, RPT-S, reflects on the quiet magic of child-centered therapy—the kind that doesn’t force change, but makes space for it.

In that space, something shifts.

A child who once didn’t feel good about themselves begins to feel worthy.
A child disconnected from their body starts to feel safe again.
A child carrying trauma slowly learns: I can be here.

Because when you create a space that feels safe enough… children will show you exactly who they are—and who they’re becoming.

If you’ve ever wondered what healing looks like for a child, this conversation will stay with you. 💚

You do not need to explain or justify your feelings to be allowed to feel them. Your emotions are real even if others do not fully understand them. Ignoring how you feel does not make it go away it only pushes it deeper. When you allow yourself to acknowledge your emotions without judgment you create space for healing growth and a better understanding of yourself.

Healing does not erase what happened and it does not pretend that the pain was never real. It means you have learned how to carry your experiences without letting them define every part of your life. It means the things that once controlled your thoughts your reactions and your emotions slowly begin to lose their power over you. Healing is not about becoming someone new it is about reconnecting with yourself in a way that feels stronger calmer and more in control.

It’s easy to treat uncomfortable emotions like something we need to push away or solve immediately.

But feelings are often signals, not failures. Stress can point to overload, frustration can reveal crossed boundaries, and sadness can remind us that something meaningful needs care. When we slow down enough to notice what we’re feeling, we give ourselves the chance to respond with awareness instead of reaction.

The goal isn’t to feel good all the time. It’s to understand what our emotions are trying to tell us.

, LMHC-D RPT-S, shares a clinical story about a young client navigating bullying at home and how play becomes both a language and a bridge for healing.

In this moment, she describes working virtually with a bright young boy who experiences distress in his relationship with his older brother. Through their sessions, he turns to My Path, a therapeutic tool, using it in a way that mirrors his inner world. Jodi reflects on how she integrates elements of sand tray therapy while staying grounded in child-centered play therapy, meeting him with presence, curiosity, and attunement.

It’s a powerful reminder that children don’t always tell us what they’re going through—they show us. And when therapists are willing to enter that world with them, even virtual spaces can become safe places for expression, processing, and growth.

Grief is something we will all experience… yet somehow, we’re still so unprepared to talk about it.⁣

As a society, we struggle with grief literacy—especially when it comes to expectations. There’s this unspoken timeline, this quiet pressure to “move on.”⁣

But as MeKenzie Russell Lane shares, grief doesn’t work like that.⁣

There comes a point—when the casseroles stop coming, when the visits slow down—where you’re left alone with the weight of it all. And that’s when the real work begins.⁣

Because the truth is: you don’t move on from grief.⁣

You move with it.⁣

Grief becomes part of who you are—something you carry as you step into a new version of yourself.⁣

And for many, it’s not just grief. It’s layered with trauma—caregiving, loss, witnessing suffering. All of it intertwined.⁣

So the question becomes:⁣
How do we support people not in “getting over it”… but in learning to live with it?⁣

🎙️ From Therapist Voices @ ReachLink | MeKenzie Russell Lane, LPC/MHSP⁣

You do not need to earn your worth or prove that you deserve space in this world. You were enough before the pressure before the doubt before anyone made you question yourself. The version of you right now is already worthy of respect care and love. Nothing extra required.

Modern life asks our minds to juggle more than ever before. Messages, responsibilities, expectations, plans for the future, and reflections on the past can all pile up at the same time.

When everything competes for attention, it can start to feel like your thoughts never quiet down. Slowing the pace, even briefly, can help your mind reset and process things more clearly. You don’t have to solve everything in one sitting.

Sometimes the most helpful step is simply creating space for your thoughts to settle.
