What happens if I lose a tooth and don’t get a dental implant?
1. Bone Loss-: The tooth root normally stimulates the jawbone. When the root is gone, that area of bone isn’t used and begins to shrink (resorb). This can lead to a thinner jaw and changes in facial shape over time.
2. Shifting Teeth
The nearby teeth tend to drift toward the gap, and the opposing tooth can grow longer into the empty space. This can cause bite misalignment and make cleaning more difficult.
