Diet culture is so sneaky it convinced us eating disorders are ‘goals’ 😤

The hardest part about eating disorders in 2025? They’re so normalized they’re basically marketed as lifestyle choices. Wellness culture has made it nearly impossible to tell the difference between “taking care of yourself” and slowly sliding into disordered eating. And that’s by design.

That moment you stopped yourself from sending the text… congrats, you just did DBT 👀

You’ve probably been using DBT skills without even realizing it. Every time you pause before reacting, you’re using STOP. When you blast your favorite song to change your mood, that’s emotion regulation. The cold water on your face? That’s the TIPP skill for distress tolerance.

Here’s the thing: you already have instincts for regulating yourself. DBT just gives you the language for it and helps you do it intentionally instead of by accident. Instead of accidentally stumbling into coping, you learn to choose it. That’s the power of skills-based therapy. Sometimes the most powerful realization is that you’re already stronger than you think - you just need the framework to understand what you’re doing.

Our DBT groups teach you how to use these skills deliberately, in the moments you need them most, with a community of people who get it.

Skillful Trick-or-Treating: A Spooky Success! ✨🎃
What an incredible few days we had at Therapeutic Oasis! Our clients went office-to-office collecting tools and treats to build their very own distress tolerance toolboxes. It was the perfect blend of Halloween fun and meaningful skill-building! 🧰🧡

Want to create your own distress tolerance toolkit? Here’s what to include:
SOOTHE – Items that engage your five senses: essential oils, soft textures, sour candy, calming music playlists, photos of peaceful places

DISTRACT – Things to shift your focus: fidget toys, puzzles, coloring books, stress balls, a list of funny videos or podcasts

GROUND – Tools to bring you back to the present: ice packs, grounding stones, a list of 5-4-3-2-1 sensory prompts, breathing exercise cards

Pro tip: Keep your toolkit somewhere accessible – your car, bag, or nightstand – so it’s ready when you need it most. And remember, you can always add more items that work specifically for YOU!

Halloween has us thinking about courage... not just the kind that gets you through a haunted house, but the real-life kind that shows up when you're facing your actual fears.
