I am very interested in this new FDA-cleared blood test for Alzheimer's disease. The current Appropriate Use Recommendations for the new anti-amyloid therapies state that either an amyloid PET or cerebrospinal fluid (from a spinal tap) is necessary prior to initiating anti-amyloid therapy for Alzheimer's Disease. For now, I will continue using amyloid PET scans. However, I will await the new committee recommendations. Medicare covers Amyloid PET scans. They are now part of the evaluation (and management) of mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia due to Alzheimer's disease. There are two new anti-amyloid therapies that remove amyloid from the brain and modify the course of Alzheimer's disease.
