What if?
What if you didn't exercise to be a certain size or weight?
What if you just exercised because it made you happy?
That’s the Hokey Pokey. That's what it's all about!
Don't get me wrong, looking good will always be a part of the equation for most people…And losing weight can be super important for some people for health reasons...But when weight loss is the sole focus, it can make things really challenging.
I have worked with several people over the years that were able to achieve a really impressive weight loss goal. Like a lot. Then, they discovered something pretty shocking:
They still weren't happy.
On the flip side, I've seen people who just made up their minds that they were going to exercise because it made them feel better. They decided to do something weird and actually enjoy their workouts.
They enjoyed the people around them. Laughed. Made Friends. Kept. Showing. Up.
Then the next thing you know they started getting into smaller clothes, getting stronger, having more energy, and feeling better overall.
When you exercise, it increases endorphins, dopamine, adrenaline, and endocannabinoid -- these are all brain chemicals associated with feeling happy, feeling confident, feeling capable, feeling less anxiety and stress and even less physical pain.
What a list! If you could sell that in pill form, the whole world would be taking it.
If you've been frustrated for years trying to lose weight, why not try something new? Try to focus on ENJOYING moving your body, remember that your own happiness matters, and see where it can take you.
