PrEP Me Idaho

PrEP Me Idaho Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, or PrEP, is a way for people who do not have HIV to help prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day. What is PrEP?

PrEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. Like birth control, PrEP is a pill taken daily by people who do not have HIV to protect against HIV. Is PrEP right for me? If you have had anal or vaginal sex in the past 6 months and you:
- Have a sexual partner with HIV
- Aren't consistent in condom use
- Have been diagnosed with an STI in the past 6 months
or
If you inject drugs and you:
- Have an injection partner with HIV
- Share needles, syringes, or other equipment to inject drugs

Can I stop using condoms if I take PrEP? PrEP provides protection from HIV, but does not prevent against other STI's. Can I take PrEP just once if I think I've been exposed to HIV? PrEP is for people who are at ongoing risk of HIV. PrEP is NOT the right choice for people who may have been exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours. If you may have been exposed to HIV in the past 72 hours, talk to your health care provider, an emergency room provider, or an urgent care provider about PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis). How can I start PrEP? Before beginning PrEP, you must take an HIV test to make sure you don't have HIV. While taking PrEP, you'll have to visit your health care provider every 3 months for:
- Follow-up visits
- Labs, including HIV tests
- Prescription refills

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

Understanding the issues concerning su***de and mental health is an important way to take part in su***de prevention, help others in crisis, and change the conversation regarding su***de. Evidence shows that providing support services, talking about su***de, reducing access to means of self-harm, and following up with loved ones are just some of the actions we can all take to help others.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call the Su***de Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.

More than 1 million people in the United States could benefit from PrEP, but less than one-third of them are taking it. To address the cost barrier for some individuals who might otherwise wish to use PrEP, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services launched the Ready, Set, PrEP program.

You can apply to the Ready, Set, PrEP program if you:

1. Don't have health insurance coverage for prescription drugs.
2. Have taken an HIV test and received a negative result before starting the program.
3. Have a prescription for PrEP.
4. Live in the United States, including tribal lands and territories.

Don't let not having insurance stop you from taking PrEP if you could benefit from it.

It’s National Women’s Equality Day! Today is a day to commemorate the passage of women’s suffrage in the United States and reminds us of the hurdles overcome by the heroic women who faced violence and discrimination to propel the women’s movement forward.

Here are just a few of the many important moments in U.S. history to look back at featuring strong women:

• August 26, 1920: American women gained the right to vote.
• May 20, 1932: Amelia Earhart becomes the first woman to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean.
• December 1, 1955: Black seamstress Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Montgomery, which helped launch the Civil Rights Movement.
• June 18, 1983: Sally Ride becomes the first woman in space.
• January 18, 2021: Kamala Harris is sworn in as the first woman as Vice President of the United States.
