I sent an email to President Biden asking him to help trans people.

President Biden,
I know that you care about transgender Americans. I know that Sarah McBride and others have helped you see into our lives, our joys, and our obstacles. Right now we are facing an onslaught in legislatures across the country. I and my trans siblings in the once Libertarian state of Idaho are being attacked at every turn, and so many of us are joining the trans diaspora seeking a safe place to live. Idaho is one tiny step behind Florida in its efforts to legislatively erase us by forbidding us from having our correct gender markers on our state issued driver's licenses.

Mr. President, I believe that you hold it in your power to push back on these cruel erasures by using the Real ID Act and ensuring that our genders are correctly shown on our documents. As transgender citizens all we want is to support our families, contribute to our communities, and live and travel in society as our true selves. Forcing us to use state IDs that out us to our neighbors when we are called on to show who we are is debasing, incongruous, and frankly dangerous. Please, help us.

Idaho is trying to emulate Florida by stripping citizens of their right to driving licenses that show their proper gender. This would mean that we would have to show an incorrect, and incongruous, ID when we make certain purchases, write a check (I know...), or have an encounter with the police. It has been suggested that the national Real ID Act could be used to force Idaho, Florida, and several other states with plagiarizing copycat legislatures to acknowledge our true identities, that we are fighting for at every turn. We need our federal government to stand with us four our safety and livelihoods.

!!! Idaho House bill 421 proposes that biological s*x at birth is immutable and that gender identity or presentation is meaningless. This bill would prohibit a doctor from administering any of the treatments or gender affirming interventions that are accepted as best practices by all major medical and mental health organizations in the US to anyone under 18. It would prohibit changes to Idaho birth certificate documents that are used to support identity for Idahoans of all ages throughout their lives. It is an incursion into the lives and welfare of transgender Idahoans and an overreach of epic proportions.

What to do? Contact your legislators (https://legislature.idaho.gov/legislators/) and let them know that they are not medical or mental health experts and that they should stay in their lane! If you are a medical professional who works with transgender people let the legislature know that you do not want to face 10 years in prison for treating transgender minors according to the best practices set down by your professional organization (counselors are not specifically included in the bill, but write anyway). This is the chilling next chapter in the far right's coordinated campaign against transgender people. We are extremely vulnerable! Sine die in the Idaho leguslature. Finally! They will now stop taking away our rights for a few months!!!

In the House's final action before adjourning sine die, lawmakers upheld the governor's veto of the Children's School and Library Protection Act by one vote.

Please share!!! The horrible Idaho bill to outlaw trans care for young people will burst into effect January 1 of 2024. SO FAMILIES NEED TO START PLANNING NOW. The Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland is a premier trans healthcare resource and within somewhat easy reach (yeah right) but they have AN 8 TO 12 MONTH WAITING LIST for kids referred by another doctor.
This means it would be smart to get a referral soon and get on the list so there won't be a gap in services! They do limited telehealth checkins for certain situations but prefer to have patients come in person to the clinic. Get started now to make the transition as easy as it can be (see what I did there?). You can still keep an Idaho doc for general healthcare.
