“My name is John Ward and I’m still here.”

Such a simple sentence, but it says so much. And the ability for others to hear it, that means everything to Ward.

Meet Amy Kinnan, RN Emergency Department, St. Luke’s Elmore Medical Center:

“I have worked at St. Luke's for a total of 9.5 years (recently re-hired after some time away). I started as a health unit clerk, earned my CNA, worked as a tech in the ED, and eventually completed my BSN at NNU. I am currently a charge nurse in the emergency department. I love my job because I like knowing who I'm working with, seeing familiar faces from other units, and laughing with my coworkers. I enjoy the variety of patients ranging from 0-100+ years and caring for the many varieties of patients that working in the Emergency Department brings.”

April 5-11, is Patient Access Week, where we celebrate those working in Patient Access who work tirelessly behind the scenes to create a positive patient experience and support the many functions that make St. Luke's great.

St. Luke’s McCall RN Mandi Johnson was surprised by her team, husband Karl, and Robyn Beall, St. Luke’s Nursing and Patient Care Center of Excellence leader, who recently presented Johnson with a DAISY Award for her above-and-beyond efforts to a support a patient who received care in the McCall Emergency Department.

Johnson cared for the patient’s physical and emotional needs following a stressful and traumatic event. She even coordinated with Karl, a St. Luke's McCall pharmacy manager, to ensure the patient returned home safely.

Congratulations, Mandi! Thank you for all you do to support patients and your community.

St. Luke’s Labor & Delivery team members from Magic Valley, Wood River and Elmore recently had the opportunity to attend a Spinning Babies workshop in Twin Falls through funding provided by St. Luke’s Foundation.

Spinning Babies is a “physiological approach to preparing for and caring for birth,” according to its website.

“Spinning Babies has been shown to promote optimal fetal positioning, reduce cesarean section rates, increase staff confidence and enhance comfort during labor,” said nursing manager Emily Maschek.

Similar training has previously been offered in Boise; this was the first time St. Luke’s Magic Valley has hosted a session.

“The training offered valuable techniques that assist patients throughout the labor process,” Maschek said.

The 2026 Ag Baby is here!

St. Luke's Nampa recently celebrated the honor of having the first baby born on National Agriculture Day! Baby Manuel made his debut just before 3 a.m. weighing 8 pounds, 2.5 oz. and just over 20 inches long on March 24.

Each year, the Canyon County Farm Bureau honors the first baby born on Ag Day with generous gifts for the newborn and their family.

Congratulations to Imelda and Manuel on their baby boy! Baby Manuel joins a lively family that includes four sisters and a brother. The family's two youngest sisters were especially excited to welcome their new baby brother.
