Here is a video by Dr. Kwon of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for very advanced prostate cancer. It is a few years old so updates would be that the Lu177 that he mentions was approved for after chemotherapy, as he predicted. This has information about the PSA (prostate specific androgen) blood test as it is used for screening. Some is his opinion, which is shared by many, and some is from a study. Information is good - we just have to be careful how we use it. PSA blood test was discouraged for years and still by some - but that seemed to be based on an over zealous use of treatment, not risks of the test. You decide what's right for you.

Scroll through it. There is information from when to test, what to look for, what questions to ask, early and advanced. [One comment: you will see that NCCN after age 75 does not recommend PSA test - THAT'S ONLY IF YOU'VE BEEN TESTING, following the guidelines, up until then. If you have not been tested - get tested!]

For a while, it was believed that it was safer to not be screened for prostate cancer than to be screened. [Personal opinion: it was never the over diagnosis that was/is the problem - the problem comes from over treatment.] Here is a study that shows skipping screening (and thus diagnosis) results in 45% higher mortality (=DEATH) from prostate cancer. [I know that the picture says 23%, but go to the link and read the article, it's 45%.]

Men who avoided prostate cancer screening were significantly more likely to die from the disease, according to a large European trial. The reasons for ignoring prostate cancer screening are complex but may be related to a lack of education about the importance of the diagnostic procedure.
