Consuming raw milk versus pasteurized? Know the risks!

Central District Health is investigating several illnesses linked to raw milk:

- Raw milk is not pasteurized. Pasteurization is a process that heats milk to kill dangerous bacteria and viruses, making it safe to consume.

- Drinking raw milk can lead to serious illnesses, especially for children under 5, adults over 65, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.

What can I do to lower my risk of getting sick?

- Choose pasteurized milk to protect your family from serious illness.

- Refrigerate milk and dairy products at 40°F or below.

- Throw away expired milk and dairy products.

The choice is yours-just be informed.
