This Friday & Sat Jan 30 & 31st, Boise Bodyworks Massage Therapy will be closed. When working so closely with peoples bodies it is so important to retain empathy across the board. It is important in the body work that is done here, to maintain a compassion, to treat everyone fairly, & provide a sense of safety, personal autonomy & humanity to all. I am not proud, but hopeful in joining in this strike. As someone of multiple ethnicities, who's grandfather participated in the Delano Grape Strike, & was a United Farm Workers member, small things can change big things. Not right away, but daily, collectively & with perseverance. For the most just treatment for all. There will be people who tell me I will lose money, customers, but I have many happy customers who's views I dont fully agree with & am very able to maintain a respectful & peaceful place for all. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. I truly am so grateful to have had your trust for so many years.

With the recent govt. shut down and SNAP benefits being a current topic my conscience felt the need to share this. I went to massage school full time which takes up the entire working day, plus extra when your in clinical hrs. I drove in Alaska, in the winter over an hr each way to get to massage school because I didn't have the time it took to get a job that would pay enough to get an apartment in the city I went to school in, & I had a free place to stay over an hr away. Homework alone took hrs because I was in an intensive program. I went to school at 28 yrs old. I had paid into the system for approx 10 yrs. I was on foodstamps for 9 months or less but this provided me a way to at least cover food costs for myself. It gave me a sense of dignity that finishing massage school exemplified. Not only that, but being able to do that and feed myself through that gave me a sense of purpose, made me make better decisions about the future of my life, helped me shed toxic relationships, gave me financial hope all that. I have been in my career for 15 yrs & been working solely for myself for 5 yrs. I am not lazy. There are many hard working people who need SNAP as a lift up. Let's do what we can so that so many more like me, can do what they were made to do.

We stand with farm workers, with our National Parks stewards, indigenous brothers & sisters, librarians, and those who are 2 spiritive. And anyone else who's been marginalized. We might lose money for that, but what we gain together, far outweighs that. We will continue to be safe place & a refuge for those who walk in our doors
