Setting goals....
I talk to my clients a lot about goals. Recently I realized that this is something not everyone enjoys or practices. As a recovering perfectionist, let me say...we are not perfect so understand that setting goals should help push us to a better outcome, not beat us up for missing our mark. We should set short term (daily, weekly time frame) and long term goals (monthly and even longer for some things). Setting Goals helps us figure out where we want to be and identifies that we have a little work to do. Shifting our mindset to the positive things that we HAVE done is our way of celebrating the small victories!

Recently I had to overcome an injury that created pain, weakness and a constant reminder that my body had changed. It was tough mentally to not be able to do what I normally did. After surgery and being forced to literally do nothing, I was starting to really struggle mentally. It affects every part of you. I lost strength, balance, flexibility and confidence. I was frustrated with my current state. After being released by the doctor to “get back to normal activity “, I had to push myself back into healthy habits. I started by moving 30 min a day. I made a commitment to me for 30 days. I walked, stretched, did yoga and some resistance work. I even did something that scared me...a spin class. Funny thing about it all is, I learned that I can get strong again, find things that push me forward and have fun!

I hope you find some inspiration for the things you want to achieve. Decide what you need to get done, set some goals and hold yourself accountable. If you struggle with sticking with it, ask a friend to support you in your quest!

You may be surprised to learn that it’s actually not fat that causes a fatty liver. It’s sugar.

That dangerous belly fat caused by the sugar and starch in your diet then creates even more problems. It causes you to have high triglycerides and low HDL, the good cholesterol. It causes you to have small LDL, the dangerous cholesterol particles that cause heart attacks.

Fatty liver creates a whole cascade of issues. It causes inflammation in your body. This inflammation creates insulin resistance and pre-diabetes, which causes your body to deposit fat not just in your liver but also all around your organs and in your belly.

That dangerous belly fat caused by the sugar and starch in your diet then creates even more problems. It causes you to have high triglycerides and low HDL, the good cholesterol. It causes you to have small LDL, the dangerous cholesterol particles that cause heart attacks.

In fact, having a fatty liver puts you at great risk for having a heart attack, and most people have no idea they have it.

Here are some ways to help fatty liver:

- Cut out all high fructose corn syrup from your diet.
- Reduce or eliminate starch.
- Get rid of white, processed flour.
- Improve your metabolism through exercise.
- Eat detoxifying liver-repairing foods like kale, collards, cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli, arugula, daikon radish.
