Idaho Cancer Control and Prevention Programs

Idaho Cancer Control and Prevention Programs Raising awareness of cancer issues in Idaho by reducing the risks for cancer, increasing screening, Cancer is the leading cause of death in Idaho.

One out of every two men and one out of every three women will get some kind of cancer in their lifetime. Approximately one-third of cancers could be prevented if we eliminated tobacco use, increased physical activity, improved nutrition, and maintained a healthy weight. Others could be prevented through sun safety and screening tests to find and remove precancerous cells before they become cancer. Priorities
• Increase awareness of the importance of following screening guidelines and early detection for colorectal cancer (CRC), the second leading cause of cancer death for both men and women in Idaho.
• Increase awareness among women to get screened for breast cancer according to science-based guidelines. Idaho trails the nation for breast cancer screening.
• Increase awareness and screening for cervical cancer among women experiencing greater health disparities.
• Increase awareness of sun and UV safety practices to prevent skin cancer.
• Improve systems and increase resources to improve the quality of life for cancer survivors
