Almost always it’s easier to support someone else than to remember your own.

Today was a reminder. Rest was non-negotiable, and I was able to use my own tools to find a moment of sanctuary for myself.

Sometimes this work does not have words to express or explain. This makes sense, because sometimes there are no words, there are just feelings, or spaciousness where feelings once existed.

It doesn’t have to make sense in words, working with the whole self is its own language that needs no translation.

With all of the chaos, hustle and bustle of the modern world, we forget how to slow down. Then when we do, it feels so uncomfortable. When we ignore the need to slow down for so long, our bodies stop signaling in the gentle way, and start signaling in more intense ways, anxiety, panic, emotional overwhelm.

If you have been experiencing these more intense feelings, rest and embodiment may not be the whole answer, but I can almost guarantee it will supplement your healing.

I offer guided embodiment sessions, having a witness and guide can be so very helpful.

For a lot of us, rest doesn’t come easily.

It feels unfamiliar, or like something we have to earn.

This is why spaces where rest is supported and held for you can matter so much.

Whether that’s in restorative yoga or in a 1:1 session,
sometimes your body just needs a place where it doesn’t have to hold everything on its own.

Sometimes what we call “being a good person”
is actually being afraid to disappoint. It can look like kindness on the outside,
but feel like pressure on the inside.

You are not wrong for repeating this pattern,
you learned it somewhere, and at one time may have protected you from danger.

But now, now is the time to shift that pattern.

Take a moment to tune into the sensations. Do you feel tingles, warmth, does your breath change?

Now think of saying no to something that is definitely a no. What sensations do you notice now? Heavy in your stomach? Pinch in your throat?

Have you ever said yes when you clearly felt no? Sometimes our bodies give us very clear signs and we ignore them, sometimes the signs are less clear, and sometimes our minds and protective instincts take over and we can’t feel our bodies at all.

People pleasing and saying ‘yes’ when we want to say ‘no’ is not an easy pattern to break. But, I truly believe, our bodies and minds are so intelligent that with practice and self awareness we can create space for ourselves to feel and begin to repattern this behavior that once felt automatic.
