Caring for someone with dementia can feel like a lot to carry alone.

There’s a newer Medicare-supported program called GUIDE that’s designed to support both the individual and the family caring for them.

Who may qualify:
• Living with dementia
• Enrolled in Medicare
• At home or in a community setting
• Supported by a family caregiver

What support may include:
• A dedicated care team to help coordinate care
• Education and guidance for caregivers
• Time for caregivers to step away and recharge

In many cases, this support is covered through Medicare—meaning there may be little to no out-of-pocket cost for those who qualify.

If you’ve been trying to figure out what help is available, this can be a meaningful place to start.

What does a typical day look like for a home caregiver?

Every client is different, but a caregiver’s day often includes a mix of practical help and meaningful moments.

It might start with helping someone get ready for the day, preparing breakfast, or assisting with bathing and dressing. Later in the day, a caregiver might drive a client to a doctor’s appointment, pick up groceries, help prepare lunch, or simply sit and share a conversation.

Sometimes the most important part of care is companionship — making sure someone feels supported, safe, and connected.

At HomeWell Care Services, our caregivers help older adults in Boise and across the Treasure Valley continue living comfortably at home while families have peace of mind knowing someone they trust is there to help.

Did you know diabetes affects millions of Americans, and many don’t even realize they’re at risk? Age, family history, inactivity, and certain health conditions can all play a role.

Today, on American Diabetes Association Alert Day, we encourage you to take a moment to check in on your well-being—and encourage a loved one to do the same. A quick risk assessment and early conversations with a doctor can make all the difference in your long-term health.

Sometimes it’s the little wins that mean the most ❤️

One of our caregivers spent months gently encouraging a client to try something new. She had no interest in playing games… until one day, she said yes to a round of Phase 10.

Now? She loves it. This score sheet tells the story.

At HomeWell, our caregivers do more than help with daily tasks — they build relationships, create moments of joy, and bring connection back into everyday life.

Because care isn’t just about getting through the day… it’s about enjoying it.

Many families start asking questions about home care long before they actually reach out.

Some of the most common questions we hear include:

• When is the right time to start home care?
• How many hours can we start with?
• Does insurance cover home care?
• Can caregivers help someone with dementia?
• Can care be temporary after surgery?

The good news is that home care is very flexible. Many families begin with just a few hours of support each week and adjust as needs change.

At HomeWell Care Services, we help families throughout the Treasure Valley find the right level of support so their loved ones can remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home.

If you’re starting to explore options or simply have questions, we’re always happy to talk.

Family caregiving in America is more common than many people realize. The numbers are eye-opening:

• Nearly 90% of adults age 65+ say they want to remain in their own homes as they age.
— AARP

• 1 in 5 Americans is currently caring for an adult loved one.
— National Alliance for Caregiving

• More than 53 million Americans provide unpaid care for family members or friends.
— National Alliance for Caregiving

• Family caregivers provide an estimated $600 billion worth of unpaid care each year in the U.S.
— AARP

• About 80% of adults age 65+ live with at least one chronic health condition.
— National Council on Aging

• Home health and personal care aide jobs are projected to grow more than 20% this decade, reflecting the growing need for in-home support.
— U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Behind each of these numbers is a family doing their best to support someone they love.

Professional in-home care can help share the responsibility—allowing older adults to remain safe, comfortable, and independent in the place they know best: home.
