It’s humbling teaching colleagues. I luckily get to meet great clinicians improving their skill set every year when I teach DNP students. I even got to work with a nurse who helped with the birth of my last son. Good luck everyone on the next couple of years and becoming DNPs. Become great.

If you’ve been diagnosed with an injury that isn’t healing, or simply doesn’t feel “right”- you aren’t alone. Diagnostic errors are more common than most people realize. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 7.4 million misdiagnoses occur annually in emergency rooms.

Diagnosing complex injuries is difficult; even the most experienced clinicians can get it wrong.

At Zona, we frequently see patients who come to us for a second opinion after searching for answers online. Below are the most common “initial” diagnoses I see, paired with what the injury actually turns out to be.

Patients always ask us how to avoid back injuries.

That’s hard. If we found a solution to fix all back injuries, we would have more Zona clinics than Starbucks.

Some movements can really irritate a meniscus during the desensitization phase of rehab.

Taylor breaks down some movements to watch out for WHILE healing. This doesn’t mean you should NEVER get into these positions. This just means there’s a season for avoiding such triggers.

Think about having a cut on the palm of your hand. While it heals, you would want to avoid certain positions of the hand as to not let the cut re open.

Once the cut is healed, you can return to those movements without a problem. Injuries inside the body can work the same way.

Pain isn’t always black and white. When a case gets complicated, many providers lean into prolonged treatment plans rather than refining their diagnostic process.
At Zona, we’re obsessed with the “Why.”
We’ve developed a framework to ensure our tests and protocols are pinpoint accurate, especially when things don’t fit in a “perfect box.”
We don’t do mediocre. We do results.
No Pain, More Gains.

Here’s how we do it- 1. Find the root problem with an accurate diagnosis.
-No imaging.
-But a series of tests to rule in/out pathologies.

2. Effective treatment that is easily replicated at home.

-No expensive tools.
-Plain, not sexy, effective home plans.

3. Tissue capacity building.
- Learning how and why your tissues maladaptive and how to overcome it is a huge barrier to stopping the repetitive pain cycle.

If you’re curious how you can get out of the pain cycle, DM us here!
