We're PIVOTING to a Free Community Walk! Register at zbclink.org/stp2025

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the research talk and reception components of our Steps Toward Prevention event. This decision was made due to an unfortunate and unforeseen logistical challenge that impacted a critical component of the program.

Although we’re disappointed that our original event with a research talk won’t take place, our mission is too important to pause. We’re excited to announce a new, free opportunity for you to connect with our work.

We plan to host a Free Steps Toward Prevention Community Walk with naturalist Renee Cormier from Point Blue Conservation Science at Commonweal in Bolinas on the same date, Sunday, October 26th, at a new time, 2:00 PM!

This walk is a perfect way to directly engage with our mission of prevention and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of Marin County. Both exercise and the stress reduction of being in nature reduce risk of breast cancer and recurrence, so together we will join to take steps toward prevention and our own health.
Donations to support our critical mission are highly encouraged and greatly appreciated but completely optional!

We hope you can come to Steps Toward Prevention on Sunday, 10/26 1-5 pm in Bolinas, CA! Please consider joining us as a peer-to-peer fundraiser for a discounted $50 ticket: https://zbclink.org/stp2025

When you support ZBC and encourage your network to do so too, you are funding the translation work that directly meets the current moment:

Translating Science into Action: We turn complex findings on chemical exposures (like EDCs) and public health trends into clear, actionable, and culturally relevant resources like our Generations/Generaciones campaign.

Championing Evidence: Your commitment ensures decisions about our environment and health are guided by science, empowering individuals to navigate an uncertain world with knowledge.
Get your ticket and invite friends to sponsor your walk, spreading the word about cancer prevention, and multiplying your impact! Use our fundraising toolkit for tips on getting sponsors and social media graphics – similar to the one on this post.

FLASH SALE -- Join us Oct. 26 in Bolinas, CA for only $99 when you get your ticket before Sat. Oct 4 at midnight! zbclink.org/stp2025

At "Steps Toward Prevention: A seaside walk and research talk for Zero Breast Cancer," we'll start the afternoon with a thought-provoking conversation with groundbreaking breast cancer researcher Kimberly Badal, PhD. Dr. Badal is at the forefront of studying how everyday chemical exposures could influence breast cancer risk—and Zero Breast Cancer joins her on a mission to make this critical research accessible to everyone.

After our conversation with Dr. Badal, we’ll hear from a Point Blue Conservation Science naturalist before setting off on a walk along the bluff—surrounded by sweeping vistas and fresh ocean air.

We’ll wrap up with a community reception, where you can connect with fellow advocates, nature lovers, and changemakers over light refreshments.

Don’t miss this inspiring day of connection, discovery, and purpose. Together, we’re walking toward a healthier future.

Chemotherapy and radiation can change the way foods taste, making eating more challenging. Experimenting with different flavors may help—try naturally sweet options like melon, pears, and grapes or tart choices like green apples, lemon ices, and plain Greek yogurt. Brushing your teeth and tongue before meals can also refresh your taste buds and make food more enjoyable. There’s a lot of confusion about soy and breast cancer, but research shows that eating whole soy foods like tofu, edamame, and soy milk is safe during and after treatment. In fact, these foods are packed with plant-based protein, fiber, and antioxidants that can support overall health. Studies suggest that moderate soy consumption does not increase breast cancer risk and may even offer protective benefits. Stick to whole soy sources rather than highly processed soy supplements.
