George gets a hearing aid. Although the process was way over-simplified in this episode, it's a great reminder that hearing loss can progress after birth, even after an infant passes their newborn hearing screening. If articulation issues or delayed speech are occurring, the first check should be hearing to rule out a hearing loss in one or both ears. If hearing is normal and the child is over 3.5 years old, consider testing for an Auditory Processing Disorder. ListenHEAR provides both hearing and Auditory Processing Evaluations and therapy.

Heading to a concert, hockey game, or loud event? Don’t forget hearing protection—especially for babies, toddlers, and young children. Sound levels at stadiums and arenas can exceed safe listening levels, and little ears are more sensitive to loud noise. Using ear protection like noise cancelling headphones or earplugs helps prevent noise-induced hearing damage while still enjoying the fun. And if you forgot to bring ear protection, many stadiums, theaters, and arenas offer free earplugs at Guest Services—just ask! Protect hearing early so kids can safely enjoy concerts, sporting events, and loud celebrations.

What happens during an Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) evaluation? At ListenHEAR, our comprehensive APD testing looks beyond hearing to understand how the brain processes sound. We assess listening in noise, auditory memory, decoding skills, dichotic listening, attention to sound, and real-world communication challenges.

Our evaluations are designed for children, teens, and adults who struggle with listening, following directions, reading, spelling, or understanding speech—especially in background noise. After testing, we provide a detailed report, clear diagnosis, accommodations, and personalized therapy recommendations, including Buffalo Model Auditory Training (BMAT) when appropriate.

We offer in-person APD evaluations in Southwest Florida and remote testing and therapy in 10 states, helping patients get answers and a clear path forward. Early identification can change listening, learning, confidence, and life.
