Why Acids Should Never Be Applied After Microneedling

Microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin to stimulate collagen production and enhance product absorption. These channels serve as direct pathways for beneficial ingredients to pe*****te deeper into the skin — but they also make the skin temporarily more vulnerable.

For this reason, acids or exfoliating agents should never be applied immediately after microneedling. Ingredients such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or retinoids can cause excessive irritation, inflammation, and even post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation when introduced into open micro-channels.

Instead, this is the optimal time to apply nourishing, hydrating serums that support the skin’s repair process. Formulations containing hyaluronic acid (non-exfoliating), peptides, growth factors, and calming antioxidants will help feed the skin, stimulate fibroblast activity, promote collagen synthesis, and encourage healthy cell turnover.
