Geez.

Just in the nick of time.

I join in family's journeys where ever they live and wherever they are in their care decisions process.

A family found a "nurse" on one of those typical platforms and was all set to move her in with their loved one because, of course, they are in crisis and totally burned out and want relief.

Thankfully, they saw the value in having me just "double check" their plan.

They didn't know how to interview this "nurse", they did not do a background check, they did not do a drug test, they did not run a copy of her driver's license or insurance to see if she even had a valid driver's license or car insurance. They did not ask about anything that really matters---her experience, how she would handle their mother when their mother is paranoid or sundowning, they did not ask for references, they did not look up their state nursing licensing board to see if there are any dings on her record, etc.

So today, I spoke with this "nurse" to interview her.

She is NOT a nurse, she refused to give consent for a criminal background check, she refused to give consent for drug test.

People who are legit, don't refuse these tests.

Now I am helping the family with finding legit care for their vulnerable adult and working on longer term care plan for if/when aging at home is not affordable, manageable, or safe.

Families are in unchartered territory and often make very expensive and dangerous mistakes when they don't work with a professional who knows what they are doing and can safeguard them from poor outcomes.

I was just a guest on another podcast, and was asked:

"What would you tell your younger self" and here it is:

1. I'm not responsible for everyone's outcomes, everyone's happiness, everyone's safety
2. I can't please everyone
3. I can't be everything to everyone
4. Give myself grace

What advice would you give your younger self?

🌟 When should you get long-term care insurance? 🌟

Most people think about long-term care planning too late. By then, premiums are higher, options are limited, or health changes make coverage impossible. Considering long-term care insurance early can help protect assets and provide peace of mind. Annalee Kruger of Care Right, Inc. and Kelly Augspurger of Steadfast Insurance explain:
✅ The best age range to consider long-term care insurance
✅ Why early planning protects your independence and finances
✅ How it also helps your loved ones avoid tough decisions later

💙 Take a few minutes to watch and share. Your future self and family will thank you.

Here's the thing.

I've spent my ENTIRE career in senior care---as a social worker, admissions director, executive director for 22 years before I started my own virtual family caregiver/senior care/dementia/end-of-life consultancy in 2011.

I also train financial services professionals about the vulnerabilities in the financial plan related to aging, dementia, senior care costs, family caregiver costs to the portfolio. Advisors who are properly trained on these matters are more equipped to add even more value, plus create financial plans that actually represent the real world costs of senior care.

Additionally, I created a 6 month coaching program, ASCA, The Aging Strategy Coach Academy, the ONLY coaching program that PROPERLY trains coaches on aging, dementia, family meetings, family dynamics, the landscape of senior care, navigating senior care, end-of-life, plus, the mindset required to be a business owner.

When you're my age, with my expertise, consulting, training, and speaking opportunities are everywhere.

Proud that every week, I hear the same message---"you're the only one in the market who is doing this type of consulting work and this deep dive training to help us with our clients (or patients--for those in the healthcare industry).

And, believe it or not, healthcare workers are not often properly trained on these issues either--whether it is dementia training, end-of-life conversations with patients, fully understanding the disease their patients have, signs of caregiver burnout (both with family caregivers AND professional caregivers).

So, you will see various posts on my socials about all of the "markets" I serve.

Always here to help families have the best aging, caregiving, dementia, senior care, quality of life possible AND here to help professionals and organizations have the best possible outcomes for their clients, patients, and employees.

In light of the rapid advancements that AI tools have made since the release of ChatGPT in late 2022, people have been pondering the potential of artificial intelligence to replace certain occupations, trying to figure out if and how the nascent technology will change the way people work. And while the focus of discussions like this is often on the risk of certain jobs being replaced by emerging technologies, these shifts, as well as societal changes, usually offer new employment opportunities as well.

Think of the rise of e-commerce for example: while it has led to a decline in retail jobs and is projected to continue to do so, it has supported strong job growth in transportation and warehousing and still does. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment Projections, transportation and material moving will be among the faster-growing occupational groups for the coming decade as well, projected to add 580,000 jobs by 2034, with warehouse workers and truck drivers particularly in demand.

By far the biggest increase in employment is expected in the healthcare and social assistance sector, which is driven less by technological changes and more by demographic shifts. Due to the ageing population and the growing prevalence of chronic conditions, the wider healthcare sector is projected to account for 1.7 million new jobs by 2034, making up one third of all new jobs expected by the end of the projection period.

Looking at individual occupations, this trend is also evident, with home health and personal care aids projected to be by far the fastest-growing occupation over the next decade, adding 740,000 jobs by 2034. With registered nurses, medical and health service managers as well as nurse practitioners also in the top 10, it’s clear that the health sector as a whole is going to be a major driver of employment growth in the near future.

We have a MASSIVE shortage of quality healthcare workers.....and a MASSIVE amount of seniors/vulnerable adults who need care now, and the silver tsunami.

PEOPLE will still need to take care of PEOPLE, at least for now, until robots take over.

Interesting table below, for those looking for sustainable demand for PEOPLE vs AI....plus, consider the trades---construction, plumbing, electrician, semi drivers, etc.

🏠 When Home Care Isn’t Enough 🏠

Caring for aging parents at home can be one of the hardest decisions families face. What happens when home care isn’t working or when parents refuse help altogether?

Annalee Kruger of Care Right, Inc. reminds families to ask important questions:
✔️ Is your home truly senior-safe?
✔️ Are you prepared for the emotional and financial challenges of having parents move in?
✔️ Do you have a plan for when care needs increase?

These are not easy conversations, but planning ahead can protect your family from crisis and stress. 💙

Why I am so vocal about BOLD care advocacy----

Nearly every single family we serve is coming to us in crisis mode---a major medical event (stroke, death of the primary caregiver, Dad wandering out and police involved, or just adult kids realizing their life has been torn upside down with caregiving duties) or, in just as many cases, families are terrified by the "care" their loved one is receiving in our senior "care" industry.

Today was no different than any other day. A daughter called, another word of mouth referral, nearly hysterical (and rightfully so) because the nursing home her mother is in almost killed her from neglect.

Did you know that the WHO study found that 64% of nursing home workers admitted to abusing or neglecting the residents in their care?

And why I am so incredibly disheartened by the industry that I have loved and worked in for decades.

So, the family will begin services later today---my team will work diligently on helping them find care solutions that fit in their budget, have the care levels that BOTH parents will need (they used a placement agency to get mom into the facility that nearly killed her and chose this facility because it was "pretty" and the placement sales rep strongly encouraged this facility---of course they did--they get commissions from the facility on placement sales/transactions).

For our Care Matrix projects, we have to typically rule out 10-15 facilities because they have been cited for abuse/neglect/actual harm/death of a resident.

Senior care is in crisis--most are short staffed, using registry workers (independent contractors who do not know the residents or their care plans but are just there to fill the staffing requirement for the shift), and we simply don't have consistent, quality senior leadership.

When there is not consistent or quality leadership in place, it is the wild wild west---the direct care workers are not supervised, managed, monitored, corrected/coached when they don't follow care guidelines, etc.

GRATEFUL for my team.....we do CRITICALLY IIMPORTANT work for our families because families need this help in navigating crisis, care decisions, dementia progression, caregiver burnout, death, grief, etc.

💡 Financial Planning for Family Care 💡

When parents move in with adult children, one of the biggest challenges families face is money conversations. Too often, there’s no clear financial agreement, which can quickly lead to stress, tension, and unexpected costs.

Annalee Kruger of Care Right, Inc. reminds families that it helps to treat this arrangement like a business:
✔️ Hold monthly family meetings
✔️ Clearly divide expenses
✔️ Keep communication open and transparent

Doing this protects relationships and keeps everyone on the same page. 💙

If your family is navigating senior care, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Care Right offers a free 30-minute consultation to help you plan with confidence.
