This past Tuesday I was on my way out of town for a much anticipated day of hiking and bonding with my son when I had to turn around because my mother suddenly fell ill. Instead of hiking, we spent part of the day at the hospital.
Being a caregiver demands a great deal from a person. It’s physically, mentally and emotionally draining and, what’s worse for me, is the absolute claim it imposes on your life. It’s as hard to get away for a hike as it is to take a nap when you’re tired or sick. It is all consuming.
Knowing this first-hand, I would like to honor and celebrate caregivers here in Borrego by hosting a monthly event where we can all forget our responsibilities for an hour or two and have some serious fun.
We can get together and dance, hike, tell stories, cook a meal or just stare at the stars listening to music. I’m opening this up for caregivers to tell me what they would like to do and when they’re most available. These monthly events would start in October or November.
If you’re a caregiver, please share your thoughts and an activity you miss and would like to indulge in.
