It is the holiday season in HMU! Blake 15 will soon be decorated with menorah, crèches from around the world, and our annual Giving Tree! Here are other Happiness holiday happenings:

1. Happiness Holiday Gift Fund: to say thanks to the staff who help us care for patients every day
2. Happiness Sock Drive: for new socks for our homeless neighbors through Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program
3. Happiness/DOM Food Drive: for non-perishable and canned goods for neighbors with food insecurity in partnership with IM Residency
4. Happiness Giving Tree: with ornaments that are pledges to give to community organizations
5. Happiness Holiday Cards for patients: handmade with intention by the Lab of Computational Neuroimaging at the Martinos Center
6. Holiday cards from you: share your holiday cheer on the walls of HMU
7. Holiday meals from HMU: Chinese food for those of us working Christmas and New Year’s

On Wednesday, November 26th, Dr. Joe Hodgkin of HMU remotely joined the Young Scientists' Congress in Sochi, Russia, for a wide-ranging workshop titled "The Legacy of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW): From Confrontation to Cooperation -- the Role of Scientific Diplomacy in Building a Nuclear Threat-Free World." He spoke about the concept of scientific diplomacy and on areas of agreement between American and Russian physicians regarding nuclear weapons.

MGH Hospital Medicine Unit is thrilled to share that Dr. Peter Olds has been promoted to Director of Clinical Partnerships at the MGH Center for Global Health. In this new role, he will be working to strengthen and expand our global clinical collaborations across Mass General Brigham, supporting programs that advance equitable care around the world. We are for the incredible mentors, colleagues, and partners who continue to inspire this work!

Congratulations to Katie Turck! This year’s Ether Day, Katie was recognized for her 20th anniversary at MGH! Katie started here as a nurse on White 8 for 10 1/2 years, back when Albright was Team 4 and Albright Orange was Team 5. She worked and finished school during that time to become an NP, then joined HMU, helping us grow in service and expand in impact at MGH. Thank you, Katie, for your teamwork and service. Congratulations, and here’s to the next 20!

Don't miss Dr. Jenny Wen's upcoming presentation, "Un-Documenting: Navigating Stewardship of Patient Information." As part of the Frontlines series of the MGH Division of General Internal Medicine Conference Series, Dr. Wen will help us think about migration status, clinical decision making, and challenging themes like medical ethics, medico-legal issues, complexity of patient relations, implicit bias in healthcare, and physician burnout.
