MGH HMU Dr. Tommy Heyne will deliver the next Russell Museum hybrid lecture! “Did Caravaggio Catch Malaria? Diagnosing Infectious Disease in Artwork” will be on Tuesday, January 20, 6-7 PM. The 2025 HMU fantasy football season has come to an end, and Anita Balaji has been crowned Grand Champion! CONGRATULATIONS! Quote from the victor: “It’s one of my proudest moments.” Please give Anita every measure of respect which you feel that title deserves and witness her name now engraved on the plaque hanging above the Blake 15 mailboxes. Thank you to Ashlin Szalanski for leading this fun and friendly competition every year. MGH HMU Dr. Kathy May Tran was featured in the 10th Annual Writers Showcase of the Division of General Medicine Grand Rounds! This is Dr. Tran’s second time being featured in the Writers Showcase hosted by Writer-in-Residence Dr. Suzanne Koven. Dr. Tran and her co-editor MGH Adolescent Med Dr. Mark Goldstein talked about their recent book, Becoming a Better Physician: Insightful and Inspirational Stories from Attending Physicians, Residents, and Medical Students. Two contributors from their book, BWH IM Resident Dr. Lash Nolan and MGH Med-Peds Dr. Susan Hata, were also featured in the Writers Showcase.

1. Happiness Holiday Gift Fund: to say thanks to the staff who help us care for patients every day
2. Happiness Sock Drive: for new socks for our homeless neighbors through Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program
3. Happiness/DOM Food Drive: for non-perishable and canned goods for neighbors with food insecurity in partnership with IM Residency
4. Happiness Giving Tree: with ornaments that are pledges to give to community organizations
5. Happiness Holiday Cards for patients: handmade with intention by the Lab of Computational Neuroimaging at the Martinos Center
6. Holiday cards from you: share your holiday cheer on the walls of HMU

On Wednesday, November 26th, Dr. Joe Hodgkin of HMU remotely joined the Young Scientists' Congress in Sochi, Russia, for a wide-ranging workshop titled "The Legacy of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW): From Confrontation to Cooperation -- the Role of Scientific Diplomacy in Building a Nuclear Threat-Free World." He spoke about the concept of scientific diplomacy and on areas of agreement between American and Russian physicians regarding nuclear weapons.
