Body scan mediation is a type of mediation that turns attention to the body. This can be really scary for some people with pain for a lot of different reasons, and not everyone will be ready to do it. So why is it something to consider? It's one method for trying to separate the pain-anxiety pathway. It helps people begin to replace anxiety with curiosity, neutrality, and ultimately acceptance. It can untie various sensations - different types of discomfort - so not every sensation gets interpreted in a giant bucket of pain. It acknowledges the reality of pain, but it puts some emotional distance between yourself and pain.
