Yes this is major and an honor to be #1 job in healthcare. However, physicians still don’t know the role of an APRN and that in Massachusetts we’re able to practice independently, with full prescriptive authority and do not require a medical director. Do I believe in collaboration and our need for expert advise? Absolutely. Do I believe that healthcare cooperations should be proud to say in their opening sentence of their facility “We are a Physician-led healthcare facility who upholds the standards of the medical model…. I’m proud I take the extra 5-10 minutes to listen to a patient or their family members story while they wait to be rolled into the cath lab. I’m proud to be the nurse practitioner who goes against quantity, not up-charging my coding to make Administration happy and to refuse to sign off on charts when I haven’t even been credentialed by the patients insurance company (which is insurance fraud).
NP’s are being thrown in the ring, lied to, manipulated, being held as exempt employees and let’s face it…pretty much recyclable. A raise? in 10 years? Oh great I’m sure I WONT be here in 10 years but that’s so generous and kind of you.
