In my many years as an addiction counselor, and in my personal life of over 36 years recovered from active addiction, I have found that the most efficient and expedient path of recovery has been through the 12 step process as explained in the Big Book of AA and utilized in NA and other 12 step fellowship programs.
The curriculums that I have taught in the several recovery facilities merely treat symptoms of addiction and not the root cause of addiction.
The 12 step process, especially step 4, utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, which has been proven as an extremely effective tool for many psychological issues.
