The holiday season often feels like a race to the finish line—closing out Q4, finalizing budgets, and rushing to buy last-minute gifts. But what if we paused, just for a moment, to look for the wonder in it all?

Awe is more than just a fleeting feeling of surprise. It’s a powerful emotion that can actually shift our biology and mindset. Research suggests that experiencing awe can quiet our inner critic, lower stress levels, and make us feel more connected to the people around us.

In a professional setting, this shift is invaluable. When we experience awe—whether it's from a collective achievement, a genuine act of kindness, or simply noticing the holiday lights on the commute home—our perspective expands. We stop focusing on the small stressors and start seeing the bigger picture. This openness fosters better collaboration and a more supportive team environment.

This season, I challenge you to intentionally seek out these moments. It doesn’t require a grand gesture. It could be as simple as:
• Reflecting on a team win that seemed impossible a year ago.
• Taking a different route to work to see the decorations.
• Truly listening to a colleague’s holiday story.

Our team writer, Seth Husney, explores this concept beautifully in his latest piece, "The Awe Effect: Finding Wonder in Everyday Life." He discusses how we can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary and why awe might be the missing piece in our mental well-being.

How do you find moments of pause and wonder during the busy end-of-year rush? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

How Embracing Awe Can Transform Our Minds, and is a Missing Piece in Mental Health Care Programs Mosh pits don’t exactly have a reputation for being the friendliest of places. This Thanksgiving, I’m finding myself grateful for more than just the turkey and the big family gathering at home. I’m thinking about the "third places" that sustain us the other 364 days of the year.

We often think of loneliness as something private, but as a recent article we posted by Seth Husney, "A Light on Loneliness," it’s a collective experience that affects half of all Americans. In a world where we can order everything from dinner to groceries without speaking to a soul, these physical spaces for connection are vanishing. And with them goes a vital piece of our social health.

This season, let’s be thankful for the places that force us to slow down, look up from our phones, and actually see each other.
Let's make a choice to keep them alive.
🦃 Visit a local cafe instead of ordering ahead.
🦃 Say hello to a stranger.
🦃 Ditch the headphones for a few minutes.

It’s a small act of gratitude that builds the community we all need.

As the shadows lengthen and Halloween approaches, it’s a fitting time to ask—has healthcare become a haunted house of technology, where patients wander lost among cold machines and ghostly bureaucracy?

Seth Husney’s latest article, "Ghosts in the Machine: Why Human Connection is No Trick in Healthcare," is a lantern in the darkness. Through eerie historical tales and modern “phantom pains” of digital detachment, Seth reminds us that the true magic in medicine isn’t high-tech wizardry—it’s the warmth, empathy, and presence only real human connection provides.

This piece is a must-read for clinicians and health leaders ready to banish the specters of impersonal care. By focusing on genuine relationships, we can ward off the chilling effects of misinformation and rekindle the trust that brings healing out of the shadows.

Don’t be spooked by innovation—embrace technology, but keep the human spirit at the heart of your practice!

The Importance of Human Relationships in Medicine The year is 1870… it is a dark and stormy night in New York, as a young woman is overcome by the spirits swirling around her. We don’t know her name, just that she has been touched by the loss of her mother to cholera and a near-death […]

October is Health Literacy Month, and we believe every healthcare provider has a role to play in creating more equitable patient outcomes. Health literacy isn't just about whether patients can read medical forms—it's about ensuring they truly understand their conditions, treatments, and care instructions. When communication barriers exist, patient safety and outcomes suffer.

At Santovia, we've developed comprehensive tools that support clinicians in delivering clear, accessible patient education. Our platform automatically delivers targeted, condition-specific education materials that help bridge the communication gap between providers and patients.

Key areas where improved health literacy makes a difference:
- Patient adherence to treatment plans
- Reduced readmission rates
- Better informed consent processes
- Enhanced shared decision-making
- Improved patient satisfaction scores

This month, consider how your practice can strengthen health literacy initiatives. Whether it's simplifying discharge instructions, using visual aids during consultations, or implementing structured patient education programs, every step toward clearer communication creates better health outcomes.

How is your organization advancing health literacy? Share your initiatives and let's work together to ensure all patients have access to the information they need to make informed healthcare decisions.

We've had an amazing experience connecting with our clients and meeting new prospects at the eClinicalWorks National User Conference in Orlando. Hearing firsthand about their challenges and successes this past year has been both motivating and rewarding.

We are proud to be a sponsor for this event and to connect with so many passionate healthcare professionals dedicated to improving patient care. It’s events like these that fuel progress and build stronger partnerships across the
industry.

A highlight was when eClinicalWorks CEO and Co-Founder, Girish Navani, came by our booth to personally thank us for our sponsorship, and our partnership delivering patient education into their platform. This picture captures the celebratory and collaborative atmosphere of the conference.

A huge thank you to the entire eClinicalWorks team for putting on such a fantastic event.
We're already looking forward to next year in Nashville!

Ever notice how our health has started to feel like a side hustle? Steps, scores, streaks—so much noise. Walking reminded me what joy feels like without a dashboard.

Lately, I’ve been trading metrics for moments:
• Saying yes to a 15-minute walk instead of another health hack
• Noticing neighbors, sunsets, and clear thoughts
• Feeling better without chasing a “perfect” number

If you’ve felt overwhelmed by health data, this piece by Seth Husney is a refreshing reset. It’s about rediscovering simple habits that actually make us feel alive—starting with a walk.

Take a read, then take a lap. What simple habit helps you cut through the noise?

How often do we stop and think about the spaces that bring us together?

Loneliness is more than just a feeling; it’s a pressing health concern. Studies equate its impact to smoking 15 ci******es a day, and it can accelerate health issues ranging from heart disease to Alzheimer’s. More people are feeling isolated, especially in a world where remote work, digital tools, and algorithms have replaced much of our face-to-face connection.

What’s missing? Third places. These are the coffee shops, parks, stoops, and diners where community comes alive. They’re the spaces where laughter, conversations, and casual interactions bind us together. Yet, they’re increasingly rare.

Seth Husney’s reflections bring this loss into stark clarity, reminding us how vital these spaces are—not just for combating loneliness, but for our overall well-being.

At Santovia, we believe in fostering connection. Supporting vibrant communities and valuing third places is at the heart of what we do. Read Seth’s latest piece here at https://santovia.com/blog/a-light-on-loneliness/ and let us know how your third place is making a difference in your life!

"Memento Mori" – Remember You Will Die.

Death isn’t a subject we like to think about often, but maybe we should. It’s not about fear; it’s about perspective. When we acknowledge our mortality, we’re reminded of how precious each moment truly is.

Today, we’re obsessed with living forever. Silicon Valley promises ultra-longevity with wild and extreme innovations, but at what cost? Are we adding years to our lives… or real life to those years?

With every breath, we have the chance to live meaningfully. To spend time with loved ones. To be present. To prioritize health, not as a number on a chart, but as a way to feel alive.

Technology can assist us, but it shouldn’t define us. Life is fleeting, and that’s what gives it meaning. We don’t need 150 years to understand what matters most. We only need to remember this simple truth.
