Thanks to The Boston Globe for highlighting the option in Massachusetts! Congrats to highlighted practices including Freedom Doctors, Infinity Family Care, PC, and Hydrangea Family Medicine, LLC! To clarify: is a model that appeals across the political spectrum, to those who want to support small business, but also those who want to better serve patients and communities in need and who have been traditionally underserved and overlooked. I do believe we all want to serve our communities, and the current waste of time, effort, and money spent on third-party conglomerations has led us to the current crumbling healthcare system. Patients are not left behind in this model; rather are given the time and attention so often not afforded them in the traditional insurance-based model. And, we have the ability to offer discounted memberships, defer membership fees during times of hardships for patients, and are NOT required to collect co-pays under threat of fraud, as are doctors who are contracted with insurance companies.
Proponents herald the practice as a free-market approach to providing medical care, while critics say it could widen health care disparities by requiring patients to pay membership fees.
