🧬 New research from BIDMC shows how this year’s dominant flu strain is evolving.

In a study published in JAMA, researchers found that the circulating H3N2 “subclade K” virus has multiple mutations that make it less recognizable to the immune system. While this year’s flu vaccine still boosts protection, antibody responses to this strain appear lower than to other influenza strains.

The findings highlight how influenza viruses continue to change each season — and why ongoing monitoring and vaccine updates remain important for public health.
