We are so excited to have Finlay Wilson in town for the weekend at The Union!

Finlay and his partner Alan will be leading two sessions designed to unlock your fullest potential both in strength and fluidity.

Unlocking the Hips (11:00am-1:30pm)

The hips are the gateway to the lower back and good spinal health. From a modern-day lifestyle of sitting, we have lost the ability to perceive mentally the muscles in the legs, inner thighs and pelvic floor to the detriment of the hips. This workshop will explore the hips and connections to begin creating space in the joint. Using yoga poses and acupressure, you will explore techniques and sequences to open up the muscles that lock up and bind the hips and lower back. Suitable for all levels.

Intro to Arm Balances (3:00pm-5:30pm)

Explore lightness and strength in arm balance and handstand transitions as we deconstruct and play with some very fun Yoga poses. Suitable for all levels! Our aim is to help you build confidence, map and imprint the shapes the arm balances take and look at the balance points for the flight using props and walls. Challenge yourself to ask the question, “What part of this can I do?” and then delight in what you achieve.

Finlay has a background teaching Vinyasa, Hatha, Asthanga and over half of his 17 year career teaching Forrest Yoga. Finlay teaches Forrest Yoga with a twist of anatomy and functional range movement which means the variety of workshops offered is quite broad, as you will see. Most of them are suitable for all levels as there are stages to work through for everyone. Very much focused on the how’s and why’s of poses and how we can make them work for each person, rather than a one size fits all approach. Following the huge success of his two Kilted Yoga books, Finlay has also recently had his third book published with this focusing on accessibility Adapting Chair Yoga for Every Body.

We are so thrilled to provide teachers with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of yin yoga with Emily Peterson!

This training weaves together methodology, philosophy, and embodied teaching practice. Students will explore:

-What yin yoga is—and what it is not
-Yin and yang as qualities of attention rather than effort
-The historical and philosophical roots of yin within Daoist thought
-Fascia and ground substance as a primary medium of yin practice
-The stages and phases of water as a lens for healing and change
-Kidney/water, liver/wood, spleen/earth, heart/fire, and lung/metal through embodied practice
-Meridians and Five Element theory held within a broader somatic and relational context
-Photonic light, EZ water, and the Ka-body as subtle dimensions of experience
-The Four Foundations of Mindfulness and four-beat awareness as lived practice
-Trauma, nervous system response, and the creation of a trauma-responsive practice environment
-Attention, preference, and how unconscious agenda shapes experience
-Rather than memorizing concepts, students learn to sense, notice, and track these principles through their own bodies and teaching.

Yoga Superpower: Authenticity

We know ourselves better through practice. And we like what we find. This makes us more willing to take up space in the world, and let our true selves be SEEN.

A number of our teachers have been using their time, energy and funds to contribute to the Abolish Ice movement. This is one of many meaningful ways the BYU Community takes their yoga off the mat. We are so grateful to have a team that holds compassion for those who are suffering and uses their resources to uplift those in need and speak out against harm.

Special shout outs to and who donated funds from their classes on Friday to and attended both protests

Yoga Superpower: The Pause

We learn in practice how to respond, instead of how to react.

How to welcome sensation and emotion with a bit of detachment, so we can decide on the best next step.

Make your buttons harder to push!

Welcome Home

Opened in February 2019,and winner of Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston - Best Yoga Studio, Boston Yoga Union is Boston’s ‘newest old-school yoga studio.’ From the poses, the philosophy, the hard work; to the mystical, the playlist, the sweat AND the surrender: we genuinely love it all.

Our teachers first and foremost consider themselves students; and our collective experience shows us that regular practice of yoga is vital to physical health, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual connectedness.

With three beautiful spaces, a diverse menu of class styles and levels, we welcome all humans to practice with us.
