If you’re a caregiver of multiple children, you’ve likely dealt with sibling squabbles and fights. You may feel like you’re not sure what to do to prevent this from happening. You rush in once the fighting starts, but it keeps recurring. When we address a behavior only when it’s a negative behavior we want to change, it unintentionally reinforces that behavior because you’re only giving attention when the negative behavior happens. Try giving focused and specific attention and praise BEFORE things escalate into a fight to make kids see that the good behaviors get your attention as well. Offer praise for positive interactions like sharing and you should see a difference! Leave a comment with any specific issues you’re struggling with or use the link in our bio to set up a free phone call today for more support!

The best thing loved ones and friends can do is aim to become “bilingual” and try to understand how someone with autism might speak and engage and why.
