Some Shatterproof volunteers have a deep personal connection to the mission—like Pierce Crowley. He’s celebrating 10 years of sobriety while serving as a NYC Walk fundraiser, co-captain and Junior Council member. His leadership helps push our work forward in the ways that matter most. Thank you, Pierce!

Jack, Susanna and Sunshine volunteered with us at the Dallas Walk as part of our national partner, Braeburnrx - arriving early, staying late, and cheering walkers through every step of the day.

For these three, volunteering is about connection: showing up for community and remembering their “why.”

Their energy, kindness, and willingness to jump in wherever needed helped us close out the walk season with joy - and we’re thankful for their enthusiasm and support.

Shatterproof volunteers are at the heart of our mission to end addiction and save lives—including people like Cornellie Edwards, who brought her energy and compassion to last year’s NYC Walk to End Addiction.

Volunteering is her way of giving back, encouraging others, and reminding people they’re not alone. We’re grateful to have her as part of the Shatterproof community.

⏲️ Did you know, Naloxone (Narcan) can reverse an opioid overdose in minutes? It's safe to use, even if you're not sure what they took.

If you're worried someone may be experiencing an overdose:
• Check for breathing and responsiveness
• Spray naloxone into one nostril
• Give a second dose, if no response
• Call 911, if you haven't already.
• Stay with them until help arrives

Addiction is a health condition that alters brain chemistry and impacts decision-making.

Recovery takes more than willpower--it requires community, support and access to quality care. Even then setbacks are a normal part of the process.

If your loved one lives with addiction, you may feel frustrated, confused, or even hurt. Those feelings are real. But blame won’t move things forward—while support can.

If you suspect an overdose and they won't wake up, you can use naloxone — even if you don't know what they've taken.

If they don't respond after 2-3 minutes, it's safe to give them a second dose while you wait for help.

Adolescence is a time of major growth and change, especially in the brain. The parts of the brain responsible for judgment, impulse control, learning, and emotional regulation are still developing, and that process continues well into a person’s 20s.
