Tufts Medical Center is leading the way in stroke prevention. Our team just performed the first implant of a new device called the P3 Occluder System, designed to close a small opening in the heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO).

About 1 in 4 adults has a PFO, and in some cases, it can increase stroke risk. This national study will help doctors learn if this device is safe and effective for preventing strokes in patients with a PFO.

Tufts Medical Center becomes the first site to evaluate the new P3 Occluder System for patent foramen ovale closure, advancing stroke-prevention research.

A new therapy may transform how we treat aggressive cancers.

Dr. Paul Mathew, a Hematologist/Oncologist at Tufts Medical Center, has developed an innovative treatment that reprograms prostate cancer cells, stripping them of their ability to hide from the body's immune system and making them vulnerable to natural immune responses.

This breakthrough has the potential to extend beyond prostate cancer. The therapy may also prove effective against breast, ovarian and pancreatic cancers, potentially opening new possibilities for patients who seek new, innovative options.

Dr. Mathew's research was recently selected as the "Editor's Choice" to be highlighted in Molecular Cancer Research, a major endorsement of his team's work. If confirmed in future clinical trials, this therapy could significantly change the way oncologists understand cancer biology and approach treatment.

This discovery is made possible through donor support. Tufts MC's Prostate Cancer Research Fund has raised nearly $1.5 million to help scientists like Dr. Mathew pioneer new discoveries that will shape the future of cancer care.

This Giving Tuesday, please consider a gift to Tufts Medical Center to support groundbreaking research that gives patients hope. Your gift made by midnight tonight will go twice as far with a generous match!
