Yesterday, attendees at the PCVIS conference got to be the first to hear the news that the widely utilized CVI Range assessment pioneered by Christine Roman-Lantzy has now been validated in a more controlled study! This is fantastic news for the CVI community! Thanks to the amazing Dr. Sandy Newcomb for her critical work in this field.

What an incredible opportunity to see for the first ever, state-recognized CVI Awareness Day! and did an amazing job of putting this event together with the support of , who listened to his constituents and made the call to bring attention to this issue impacting our nation’s youth (and adults!). I was thrilled to finally meet content expert Dr. Lotfi Merabet and the dynamic Tina, from Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum, who is using her platform to shine a light on accessibility issues for CVIers everywhere. I definitely felt privileged to be in this room of experts and heroes!

“More than 150 representatives of federally funded Parent Training and Information Centers, Community Parent Resource Centers and Parent Technical Assistance Centers signed a letter sent to members of Congress urging them to push back on any plans to terminate Part D grants.

‘It has come to our attention that the U.S. Department of Education is considering the cancellation of all OSEP grants to CPRCs, PTACs and related Technical Assistance Centers in the coming weeks,’ the letter states. ‘We respectfully urge you to ensure that the administration and the Department of Education uphold Congress’s appropriations and release the designated funding. Eliminating these programs would not only undermine congressional intent but also jeopardize the essential services that families across the nation rely upon.’” (Source: Disability Scoop)
Join in calling your local representatives in Congress to express your concerns about how children with disabilities will be harmed by this loss of funding.

Last week I had the privilege of hearing this group of dynamic teens and young adults who are blind or visually impaired discuss the important topic of , which is a term that describes how our school systems prepare students with disabilities for life outside of the K-12 experience. We heard their insightful findings based on panel discussions with stakeholders that delve into what it really means to consider student voice as they prepare for adult life and work. One question that particularly struck me was this: If quality of life isn't the main goal of transition preparation, why is that? And how do we correct that? At , we believe that the answer is in giving the microphone to the communities whose lived experiences should be informing our path forward!
The Dream Team's vital work was supported by the Vermont Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired, , and The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

One wears black glasses and has very short light brown hair, one has long dark hair that is pulled back, one wears white headphones and smiles, one has very dark close-trimmed facial hair, one has longer sandy brown hair and glasses, and one has very short blonde hair and black glasses.

CVI Scotland summarizes new findings of a study (link in Insta profile and at https://cviscotland.org/mem_portal.php?article=113) suggesting that damage to the visual pathways in the brain causing can be detected through MRI and OCT (optical coherence tomography) imaging. These and other exciting new findings can only be expanded through more research funding for CVI. Sharing our personal stories about how difficult CVI can be to diagnose is a powerful way to educate our representatives in Congress about the importance of medical research in the daily life of millions of people in the U.S.
