“Sonje means “remember” in Haitian-Creole.

Sonje is an epistolary collection of poetry that follows Clement’s journey managing chronic pain and illness with secular and spiritual resources.

The story uses journal entries, and more importantly, time, to paint images of the day-to-day experiences processing, managing and diagnosing her chronic illness.

Sonje is organized by time and quintessential element (Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Spirit).
The time helps to illustrate the progression of a chronic illness. The elements help to remind readers of the divine presence and lessons around us in nature and beyond.

The collection takes readers on a unique five part journey that looks at the struggle to find healing while racing against a 27-day clock that resets every month. Sonje is raw, lyrical, vulnerable, critical and honest.“

This week we’re highlighting Sophia Mains, CEO & Co-Founder of HeraHealth Inc.

HeraHealth is developing technology designed to help detect and quantify maternal blood loss using image processing, giving earlier alerts and helping prevent serious postpartum complications.

Postpartum hemorrhage remains one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity worldwide, and innovations like this are helping move maternal care forward.

Women’s health innovation is being driven by founders who are asking better questions and building better tools.

We’re excited to spotlight the people working to change the future of healthcare for women.

Women’s health has always been shaped by those willing to challenge the system.

We are recognizing the physicians and leaders whose work reshaped maternal care, public health policy, and access to care for women across the country.

The legacy of Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, Dr. Helen Octavia Dickens, Dr. Marilyn Hughes Gaston, and Dr. Dorothy Ferebee reminds us that progress in healthcare doesn’t happen accidentally, it happens when someone insists on change.

Honoring their work means continuing this conversation around equity, access, and being heard.

Conversations about women’s health are incomplete without acknowledging the disparities Black women face in healthcare.

Black History Month is a time to reflect, but these conversations deserve attention year-round.

Listening, believing, and advocating for equitable care isn’t seasonal. It’s necessary.

Today is National Cancer Awareness Day💝

It is a time to recognize the impact of cancer on women’s lives and health.

✨ Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in the United States, with ~280,000 cases in 2022 and ~42,000 deaths in 2023.

✨ About 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.

✨ Cervical cancer continues to affect thousands, with an estimated ~13,500 new cases in 2026.

✨ Ovarian cancer remains a serious concern with ~20,890 expected diagnoses in 2025.

These numbers are a reminder of why awareness, early detection, and community support matter.
