For many years, my flow classes have always incorporated bodyweight resistance and small muscle group specific movements. It’s always been my favorite way to teach hatha or vinyasa classes. You’ve heard me say: rotate your arm this way/that way so we strengthen the shoulder for chataranga; OR, energetically pull your legs together so we can make sure we strengthen the full circumference of your hips.

While I know a few things working as a physical therapist assistant, I also know THE BEST information often comes outside my daily bubble. I had the amazing privilege of spending the morning with at learning warm ups, cool downs and techniques for different deadlift techniques. I cannot wait to incorporate her brilliant words into forward folds, 1/2 lifts, utkatasana, goddess pose… OH the possibilities.

Best advice: get out there yourself! Try some new movement forms. See what you think. Creating strength only enhances your movement on your mat and compliments how you move with breath.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” – Carl Rogers

This is me being my geekiest/happiest: chatting about anatomy. In my world, teaching others how to move and breathe consistently comfortable (on and off the mat) while supporting the nervous system is what yoga is all about. Watching students remember they are whole, beautiful beings that can live a full life with a lighter touch and agency without performance: PURE JOY.

Adam and I are coming back together the transformative duo of sound healing and yin yoga.

Yin Yoga invites you to indulge in prolonged, passive stretches designed to target the body’s deeper layers: fascia and connective tissues.

Sound Healing utilizes instruments like crystal bowls, chimes and gongs to produce vibrations and frequencies that resonate with the body’s natural rhythms inducing states of deep relaxation.

We look forward to seeing you at Cedar Tree Yoga in February so you can take these lasting effects off the mat into daily life.

Schedule a self-care Sunday break! Taking a short time to recharge allows you to establish clearer boundaries and make intentional decisions on how you interact with others. Adam and I would love for this yin yoga sound bath to be a catalyst for optimizing your health and well-being.

I’ve never been a “one size fits all” or “this is the only way” kind of gal. While I am a steadfast student of yoga, I’ve explored Ashtanga, yin, power yoga, chair yoga, and a wide variety of hatha styles over the course of 30+ years but never proclaimed any of the corresponding titles.

Instead of forcing yourself into a hard mold, let yourself explore different practice personalities and styles. Seek out your unique recipe that provides comfort, calls out your integrity, fuels your fire and calms your monkey mind.

Adam and I return to Cedar Tree Yoga to explore balancing the Metal and Earth Elements as we transition from late summer into fall. Earth elements grounds us while the Metal element represents our discernment and boundaries.

Slow down and breathe with long, deep stretches designed to condition your muscles, tendons, fascia and nervous system for resilience.

Today, I was asked how many yoga trainings/workshops have I attended (and also taught) over the last 20 years… yikes! Many. All for different reasons: personal shifts, pure enjoyment, improved language skills, philosophy, specific focus on anatomy or sequence, etc. None of them ever a waste of time. They always left an impact.

I find myself returning to the same quality notes and materials with a new view point… in a different age/stage of life and knowledge. It’s a privilege to take what’s been handed to me, forge it into a modern/updated context from my experience and hand it to others.
