I wanted to share an update on Akshar’s treatment and also a note of thanks to so many of you.
The past couple of weeks after Akshar’s bone marrow transplant have been extremely challenging for him. We are very grateful for all the prayers, messages, and positive thoughts shared by many of you.
A very special thanks to Jay from Mylapore Express — your gesture of walking 11.5 miles for Akshar and praying for his recovery is something we will always cherish. Your kindness, and the outpouring of support from the community, truly touched our hearts. Thank you also to anyone who accompanied him today. And thank you, Jay, for spreading awareness and sharing Akshar’s story so widely.
Today is Day 14, and we finally received a piece of hopeful news we’ve been waiting for:
Akshar’s ANC has started to rise.
It’s the very first step of engraftment, and we’re grateful for every small sign of progress. We will still need to wait and see how his body reacts to the new cells in the coming days.
We also want to express how thankful we are for the excellent care at Seattle Children’s — the doctors, nurses, CNAs, and the entire care team who show so much patience, compassion, and expertise every single day. Their support has been a huge source of strength for us throughout this journey.
This is just the beginning of a year-long marathon, where he will be closely monitored for side effects, immune system recovery, and overall stability. We hope all these prayers and well wishes go a long way in supporting his healing.
On Day 28, Akshar will undergo another bone marrow biopsy to check the donor cell percentage. Based on his progress, we expect to remain in the hospital for another 2–3 weeks.
We also want to express our deep gratitude to Akshar’s anonymous bone marrow donor — someone who chose to give a child they’ve never met a second chance at life without expecting anything in return. We hope one day to meet this incredible person and thank them in person.
Thank you all again for keeping Akshar in your thoughts.
Akshar, Krupa & Sirish!
