Faces of Frasier: Resident Edition! Meet Juan, a resident who has spent his life at the intersection of science, music, and global diplomacy. As a former director of a major geophysical institute, he has seen firsthand how research and education shape our world. He continues to ask big questions, both in science as he continues his research, and about how to make communities like ours better for people living with vision loss.
Quick Q&A with Juan:
Q: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you pick?
A: Argentinian barbeque. It’s different than the way of doing it here, and it takes a lot of time to cook. For food, I am spoiled from places like Argentina, Italy, and Austria.
Q: What is something your grandparents or elders taught you that you still remember?
A: The father of my mother acted as the model for me, he was not a scientist, but he was an engineer. He was director of the electrical power plant in Italy where we lived at the beginning of my life. Looking back, he was what probably put me on the track of science.
Q: If you could master any skill instantly, what would you pick?
A: I’m missing playing the organ. But, I have given talks [at the church] across the street on the organ as an instrument, on music perception, and so on. I used to play across the street, they have one of the biggest organs in Boulder.
We are grateful he continues to share his global perspective, scientific insight, and lived experience with the Frasier community. See you next time!
