Do you ever find yourself saying,
“Part of me is excited about this… and another part of me is a little nervous”?
This is a normal part of our human experience—having different internal feelings and values in conflict with each other.
Today I was with graduate wilderness therapy students exploring nature-based parts work—slowing down enough to recognize the different voices within us and how each one carries its own wisdom.
What I love about this approach is how creative and embodied it can be. And when we invite the natural world into the process, it often becomes a mirror, an ally, even a living metaphor for the complexity within us.
When we learn to tend our inner parts with curiosity and compassion, we grow our capacity to hold that complexity—both in ourselves and in the people we serve. 🌿
The Guest House by Rumi:
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
