The boys just got back from Aspen and had maybe a lil too much fun. Shawn and Stevie took everybody up to the mountains for 4 days to ski, take a lil dip in the hot springs, and moon the camera at a waterfall. Boys will be boys I guess.

Moments like these showcase the real stuff that happens here. The small, hilarious, and probably inappropriate stories that make Choice House an experience that will change you or your loved one’s life for the better.

The Lookout boys just got back from Aspen! 🦬❄️

Shawn, our Director of Outdoor Adventure, and Stevie, our Alumni Coordinator, led our men from inpatient on an incredible 4-day adventure in the Roaring Fork Valley—carving down the slopes, unwinding in the hot springs, and even chasing a few waterfalls along the way.

While snowfall was lighter than usual this season, the experience was anything but. From shared laughs on the mountain to meaningful moments off it, this trip was a powerful reminder that connection, adventure, and genuine fun are essential parts of recovery.

We’re grateful to announce that Sterling Thompson (and more importantly his pup Waylon) have joined the Choice House Admissions/Outreach team!

After contributing in several roles across our operations staff, Sterling has stepped into his new position as Admissions Coordinator, and we couldn’t be happier. As a Choice House alumnus and a dedicated staff member for nearly two years, Sterling knows the program inside and out and brings a deep passion for the mission and the work we do every day.

More on Sterling:

Sterling grew up in southwest Missouri and began his recovery journey at the age of 19. Like many people struggling with addiction, his path was not linear. He struggled with the cycle of relapse for several years before landing at Choice House in his late 20s. Sterling’s experience didn’t just help him get sober, it helped him develop the tools and skills needed to live a life as the man he always wanted to be. When Sterling isn’t working, you can usually find him spending time with his dog Waylon, watching his Kansas City Chiefs play on Sunday, or spending time with friends and family.

Aside from our rockin house party we’ll be hosting at the Winter Symposim (link in bio to RSVP😉) we also have our very own Jill Krush giving a talk!

On Tuesday the 27th at 9am Jill will be giving her presentation “Regulate, Relate, Restore: Polyvagal Tools for Transformation”

This presentation introduces Polyvagal Theory through hands-on methods like sociometric exercises and psychodrama, allowing participants to practice regulation and connection in real time. Attendees will learn to apply nervous system science through movement-based, relational interventions in clinical and group settings.

We had our annual alumni holiday dinner two weeks ago. Same thing we do every year—private room at Del Frisco’s steakhouse, too loud, too much laughing. We cause a ruckus in there for a couple hours.

I sat in that packed room watching our alum and almost bit through my lip fighting tears. These are the moments I prayed for in the early years. They’re the moments I’ll keep praying for as long as Choice House exists.

Fifty+ men who live on the Colorado Front Range choosing responsibility—real responsibility—for their recovery and for each other. And that was just the guys who could make it. We missed our brothers who couldn’t attend. Some working or traveling, some chasing dreams in other states, fighting the good fight, with us even when they’re far away.

I could feel the knots in that room. The knots we tie when we show up, do the work and stay when it’s hard. We bind to each other.

For all the partners who have supported Choice House this year, we wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year and ease through the holidays.

Exciting Staff Updates at Choice:

Dear colleagues, partners, and friends,

I hope this message finds you grounded in the work we all do. At Choice House, we believe in growth that honors both the individual and the collective, and today I’m excited to share growth that reflects our beliefs.

After years of effective and impactful service as our Chief Marketing Officer, Josh Miller will be stepping out of the CMO role and into a dedicated Business Development position as Vice President of Clinical Outreach – West Coast. He will continue to represent Choice House with the same heart, integrity, and sophistication he’s always brought to our mission. This shift creates important space for Josh to expand his reach and personal goals, and to collaborate with a select group of other respected and values‑aligned providers in the field. We see this as a powerful next step for Josh — an opportunity for him to continue walking his own path of growth and purpose while still having a home at Choice House and serving as the trusted bridge he’s always been. We are grateful for his leadership and excited for his new chapter.

Separately, I’m honored to share that Phil Nutt will be stepping into the role of Director of Marketing and Admissions. Phil has long been a steady presence for Choice House families and the professionals we work with. In this expanded role, he will continue overseeing admissions while dedicating more time to our many partners — those who entrust us with men and families seeking to create new, aligned, sustainable systems of living.

We’re also excited to announce that Davis Funk will step into the role of Admissions Manager. Davis has been wholeheartedly committed to this work and to serving families in need from the day he joined the Choice House team. We’re happy to see him continue to grow in his career and his impact with our families and the men in treatment.

We are also in the process of hiring another full‑time admissions team member, and we look forward to announcing this soon.

As for the esteemed Scott Apgar, we are very grateful to have him representing us so well on the East Coast!

Happy Thanksgiving from the Choice House Family💙

Today we took our men for a ski day followed by a family dinner provided by our Chef Danny!

Many staff, alumni, and clients of all programs came and joined in on the fun.

The holidays can be tough for those being in treatment so we pride ourselves on making it as special as possible for our men.

We’re extremely grateful for all families we serve, partners we work with, and the opportunity to provide long-lasting recovery day in and day out.

Ski season is here❄️❄️❄️

Our favorite time of the year has arrived. Our men have already gotten a few ski days in and the fun is only just beginning.

During winter programming, our men at our residential level of care go to the mountains twice weekly for skiing at various resorts in Colorado with 4 day overnight trips every 5 weeks.

We believe deeply in the power of nature and fun in recovery here at Choice House 🦬⛷️
