Kidney Academy, Inc. Kidney Academy is an online training and collaboration tool.

is a non-profit entity dedicated to delivering quality ACCME*- accredited education to a global audience on topics related to dialysis access. The modules are a compilation of texts and instructional videos designed as online CME coursework. The material addresses current common diagnostic, operative, and percutaneous techniques used in creating and maintaining vascular access for dialysis in patients with end-stage renal disease. Spearheaded by Dr. Ingemar Davidson, the texts and videos are created for medical professionals—surgeons in training, interventional radiologists, nephrologists and fellows, dialysis nurses, and technicians—but will also be useful to health care professionals involved in the care of patients with end-stage renal disease or cancer and the patients themselves.

We are excited to announce that Kidney Academy has launched the new CME Module 16: Modified Seldinger Peritoneal Dialysis (SPD) Catheter Placement - and it's currently available online free of charge!

Summary: In addition to kidney transplantation and hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis is a third method to keep patients with kidney failure alive. SPD has been a game changer in the management of patients going into kidney failure. Initial results using this technique described in Module 16 have been published in the Journal of Vascular Access (1,2).

The surgical placement of SPD technique is like the endovascular technique used in vascular access procedures using catheters, wires, and balloons. Hence, current barriers between vascular access and peritoneal dialysis are removed – vascular surgeons and interventionalists now can easily adopt these technical aspects of PD catheter placement.

This module has 45 videos and 30 images describing the detailed technique for the Modified Seldinger Peritoneal Dialysis (SPD) Catheter Placement.

This Tuesday's Generosity Idea: This past Sunday was World Cities Day. Every successful community is built on a foundation of resilient infrastructure and innovation, like energy, transport, irrigation, and information technology. To meet future challenges, our industries and infrastructure must be upgraded, particularly in the least developed countries.

Ideas for our local communities:

- Host a collection for people to donate their unused, working mobile phones, and in turn raise the awareness about the lack of infrastructure for communication services that 1.5 billion people still do not have.

- Tape bus fare to a bus stop for someone in need, then advocate with your municipal government for fair, accessible public transportation options including high speed rail or free bike rental programs.

- Advocate for broadband access in rural & underserved areas.

- Support investments in infrastructure in the developing world.
