As many of us observed Veterans Day today, members of the Farwell 4-H sewing club paid tribute to a local veteran in a very special way. Mr. Robert Fowler, who previously served in the Navy, was presented with a Quilt of Valor. A Quilt of Valor® (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand-quilted. It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war. The Quilt says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.”

The quilt was presented at a Veterans' Day program at Farwell High School. The service was made complete with a virtual guest speaker, Brigadier General Mike Kaloostian; recognizing current and former service men/women present at the service; and wonderful patriotic music provided by the Farwell High School band.

Words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards all our service men/women and their families. THANK YOU!!!!

🍀17 4-Hers worked on piecing this quilt together; many had never sewn anything before.
🍀A special thank you to Camille Osterkamp for leading this project and organizing all of our youth and adult volunteers.
🍀And a huge shout out to Freda Neie for completing the quilting/backing!!

What a privilege to honor Mr. Fowler and all our veterans today!

A Big To Do in D2 made for lots of contests, lots of driving, lots of practices, and lots of tired County agents and volunteer coaches!! Yesterday, we had District Food Challenge - think Chopped with teams of kids and add in nutrition information, MyPlate, and food safety. This is the largest contest we have in D2 with nearly 600 4-Hers participating 🤯!!

Parmer County had two, first time Junior teams competing. Parmer 1 consisted of Blake Morris, Lacey Hettinga, Kate Beauchamp, and Harper Hise. Parmer 2 team members were Leddy Brown, Brilynne Altman, Lynlee Averhoff, and Mary Hazel Nichols. These girls had so much fun practicing and getting ready for contest. They learned food safety, nutrition information, how to prepare dishes, and how to work together as a team.

🍀 Parmer 1 placed 5th in the Healthy Dessert category!!

🍀 Parmer 2 placed 1st🥇in the Appetizer category!!

To say I am proud of these teams is an understatement. I know how far they've come and how much work they put in!! I want to say a huge thank you to the coaches, Traci Beauchamp and Robin Averhoff for getting these teams organized and ready for contest!!

Congratulations ladies🎉🎉🎉!! We are so proud of you!!!

We'd like to give a big shout out to senior 4-Her Millie Nichols!! She competed on Monday in the District 2 Food Show contest in Lubbock. She gave a great presentation on her Street Tacos in the main dish category. The judging didn't go our way but Millie is definitely a winner in our book. She had a smile on her face all day and she's ready to come back next year!! Great job, Millie!! We are so proud of you!
