On my mind today with Brain Tumor Awareness Month - the importance of going to the eye doctor! Dominic had 20/10 vision, we always joked that he had super hero vision. We skipped his eye exam in 2017 and never rescheduled it. It wasn’t a concern to us since he’d never had any vision problems.

When he woke up that morning in Jan ‘18 with his eye slightly turned I took him to Brookstone Eye Center, Dr Kisner found that his optic nerve was swollen and sent us straight to Cook’s where they found the orange-sized tumor.

I’m past the thoughts of “what-if” and thankful that she found it then, giving us a little extra time to live it up with him during that last year. But... for the sake of helping someone else - what if?! What if we had found it 7 months earlier?

Go to the eye doctor!

“Optometry school preps future eye doctors to look beyond just the eye exam. Dr. Rubin says, “When I was in optometry school, they taught us how to look for signs and symptoms of medical conditions during eye exams – including even rare conditions, such as brain tumors.”

Eye doctor discovers a tumor growing near nine-year-old Jimmy’s pituitary gland. Masses like these, if left unchecked, can grow and press against the brain, becoming fatal.
