Wood County WIC

Wood County WIC WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. WIC supports and promotes breastfeeding.

This institution is an equal opportunity employer and provider. WIC helps income eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women, women who recently had a baby, infants, and children up to five years of age who are at health risk due to inadequate nutrition. The program improves pregnancy outcomes by providing or referring to support services necessary for full-term pregnancies; reduces infant mortality by reducing the incidence of low birth weight (infants under 5 ½ pounds are at greater risk of breathing problems, brain injuries and physical abnormalities) and provides infants and children with a healthy start in life by improving poor or inadequate diets. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding education and support; supplemental, highly nutritious foods such as cereal, eggs, milk, whole grain foods, fruits and vegetables, and iron-fortified infant formula; referral to prenatal and pediatric health care and other maternal and child health and human service programs (examples: Head Start, Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as Food Stamps). February is American Heart Month 💕

Heart-healthy habits start early. Through WIC, families can access nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, and nutrition education that help support healthy hearts for parents, babies, and growing kids.

Simple choices like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats can support lifelong heart health. This month, we’re celebrating the everyday food choices that help families grow strong, healthy hearts together.

As we look to the weekend, WCHD and WIC is reminding our community to stay safe and weather aware. Our partners at Wood County Emergency Management Agency are working to keep you updated from their sources, and it is always a good idea to give them a like/follow to stay updated as they are able to share info as they receive it.
According to this morning's update from NWS Cleveland, not much has changed. Late yesterday Wood County was added in the Winter Storm Watch (defined as conditions favorable for a winter storm event which is a threat to life and property). Wood is not yet included in the Winter Storm Warning (defined as heavy snow 6” in 12 hours, 8” in 24 hours or sleet of ½” or more) area although this area too was increased. Total estimated snowfall for the event (Wood County) is expected to be around 6 inches.
While wind speeds Monday will be slightly less, gusts of 20-25mph with the potential for light snow could make driving conditions hazardous adding to the impacts of the Monday morning commute. Tuesday morning the temperature is expected to be just above zero with 25-30mph winds gusts and dangerously low wind chills.
