I have a few Petosky stones that I found myself. Anyone else collected and polished for themselves? If you haven’t, you might be surprised to know that they look like pretty much like an ordinary gray rock laying in there in the water. You have to kind of know what you’re looking for.

1. Connection to the City of Petoskey: Named after the Michigan city, itself associated with Chief Pet-O-Sega of the Ottawa Native American tribe.
2. "Ray of the Living Sun": An English adaptation of the Native American word Bidassia, which reflects the stone's connection to warmth, light, and life.
In 1965, the Petoskey Stone was officially designated the State Stone of Michigan, gaining international fame when a large specimen was displayed on Barack Obama’s desk in the Oval Office.

Stone Advent Calendar Day 21 - Blue John Flourite

Where Preseli is unique to only Wales , Blue John is unique to England. It is one of the oldest and most famous varieties of Fluorite in the world, found only near Castleton in Derbyshire.

It is highly prized for its unique purplish-blue and cream yellow color, and its fourteen distinctive veining and banding patterns, created by filmy inclusions of petroleum millions of years ago.

Used throughout the 18th and 19th centuries in decorations and Jewellery, this mineral is now scarce, though small amounts are still mined each year from the famous Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern

The name Blue John is believed to come from the French bleu-jaune, meaning “blue-yellow,” and is also referred to as Derbyshire Blue John and Derbyshire Spar.

Blue John Fluorite carries the spirit of change and personal growth. It encourages spontaneity and the desire for new experiences.

Blue John encourages altruistic pursuits, and helps one to make good decision.

On the Third Eye and Crown Chakras, Blue John brings a sense of deep peace and clarity of mind during times of confusion or despair. It assists in knowing where to look for answers and solutions.

Preseli Bluestone is a truly unique and rare indigenous rock found exclusively in the Preseli Hills and mountain ranges of Western Wales. Its composition is a fascinating mix of minerals, including dolerite, feldspar, quartz, biotite, and ilmenite, giving it beautiful hues of blue and green, accented with white spots and black specks. This extraordinary stone is steeped in history, mystery, and powerful energetic properties.

Historical Significance

Preseli Bluestone is famously linked to Stonehenge, one of the world’s most enigmatic prehistoric monuments. Over 80 standing stones at Stonehenge, now reduced to 43, are thought to have originated in the Preseli Hills, over 150 miles from the site in Wiltshire. How these massive stones were transported remains a mystery.
• The Glacier Erratic Theory suggests natural glacial movement carried the stones across the UK during an ice age.
• Another theory posits that ancient humans transported the stones through sheer labour, potentially taking centuries to accomplish.
• Alternatively, the process remains entirely unknown, adding to the stone’s mystique.

Stone Advent Calendar – Day 19
Stones That Bring the Energy of a Place

For those of you that live and collect stones - where is your favorite one from? Feel free to share a photo of it in the comments. Mine is a simple piece of granite from my family farm. That’s where my roots are and always will be.

Wherever I go, I always bring home a stone. Each one holds the unique energy of the land it comes from, making it a powerful reminder of the connection between us and the earth.

Throughout my teaching, I have encouraged therapists to do the same—sourcing stones from the places that resonate with them. These stones can be incorporated into treatments as placement stones, adding a grounding energy from the land we live on or have visited.

Stone therapy often includes stones from around the world, but the inclusion of a locally sourced stone can enrich the treatments we give or receive. These stones don’t need to be massage tools; they can be simple placement stones that carry their unique vibrational energy.

Today, I share with you some of my personal stones that carry deep significance:
1. Hag Stones
These remarkable stones, naturally holed by water and time, are often regarded as lucky and mystical. They’re said to act as portals to the future. I collect my hag stones from Mersea Island, Essex—a place that holds a special meaning for me. Their energy reminds me of the enduring power of nature and the connection to home.
2. A Piece of the Berlin Wall
Though technically concrete, and not a natural stone, this piece was brought back from Germany by my daughter. For me, it symbolises hope, resilience, and transformation. It may not fit the traditional definition of a stone, but its history and energy make it irreplaceable in my collection.
3. Natural Pink Quartz from South Africa
This stunning piece of quartz was collected during a teaching visit to the Greater Kruger. Its gentle, loving energy brings me back to a land that holds a piece of my heart. Whenever I hold it, I can feel the warmth and beauty of South Africa.

I encourage you to explore and connect with the stones that call to you. Whether they come from your travels, your backyard, or a sacred place, these stones can bring the energy of the land into your daily life or treatments. Display them in your home, carry them with you, or incorporate them into your practice to share their unique resonance.
