Some people believe that eating too little puts the body into “starvation mode” and prevents fat loss.

In reality, very strict dieting can slightly lower the number of calories your body burns at rest, but stalled weight loss more often happens because people tend to move less when they are not eating enough.

Your metabolism supports all the essential processes that keep your body functioning, from powering your organs to helping regulate body temperature. Because these processes are necessary for survival, they do not simply shut down when calorie intake drops.

For healthy, steady progress, it is often recommended to aim to lose about 1% of your body weight per week to help reduce the risk of muscle loss and excessive metabolic adaptation.

👜✨ On March 19, the Wood County Hospital Guild hosted its annual 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗮, and it was bigger and better than ever! With nearly 400 guests in attendance, this year’s event moved to the Junior Fair Building at the Wood County Fairgrounds for an evening full of fun, food and friendly competition.

Guests enjoyed delicious catering from Beckett's Burger Bar, followed by games, raffles and 20 exciting rounds of BINGO, each with a chance to win stylish purses.

Thank you to the BGSU Men's Rugby and Bowling Green State University Volleyball teams for joining us for the night to sell raffle tickets, pass out prizes and bring great energy to the event.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, the event raised approximately $𝟯𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 to support the purchase of the SmartCurve Breast Stabilization System for the Women’s Imaging and Diagnostic Center.

Keeping kids safe on the road starts with the right car seat and we’re proud to partner with the Bowling Green Fire Division and Wood Lane – Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities for a Car Seat Checkup Event on Wednesday, March 25. Families can have car seats and booster seats checked by trained professionals, learn proper installation and usage and find out if it’s time for a change. 🚗

Wood County Hospital is the third location in Wood County to host a Narcan vending machine, expanding access to life-saving resources to our community.

• Located in the Emergency Department lobby, the machine is owned, managed and restocked by the Wood County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board (ADAMHS) as part of a countywide harm-reduction initiative.

• In addition to Narcan, the machine offers free fentanyl test strips to help detect the presence of fentanyl and reduce the risk of overdose.

• It’s available to all community members 24/7, with simple step-by-step instructions for use.

This initiative helps increase access to critical tools that can save lives and support efforts to reduce opioid overdoses in our community.

According to the CDC, synthetic opioids like fentanyl are involved in nearly 70% of overdose deaths. Even a small amount can be deadly — making access to resources like Narcan and fentanyl strips more important than ever.

Happy First Day of Spring! 🌸🌳

Warmer days are on the way, but so is allergy season. As trees and weeds begin to bloom, rising pollen levels can trigger allergic rhinitis (hay fever).

Common symptoms include sneezing, congestion, headaches, watery eyes and irritation in the nose, throat, mouth and eyes.

𝗧𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀:
❌ Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes and nose.

🪟 Keep windows closed at home and in your car when pollen counts are high.

🛏️ Use protective covers on pillows, mattresses and box springs to reduce dust mites.

🧼 Wash your hands frequently.
