This week, The Maurer Family Cancer Care Center and the Radiology Department recognized 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 (𝗡𝗥𝗧𝗪), an annual celebration honoring the contributions of medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.

Held November 2-8, NRTW commemorates the discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895, a breakthrough that forever changed medicine.

From goodie bags and food to games, our teams in Radiology and Radiation Oncology celebrated the incredible work they do every day to support our patients.

We’re also recognizing our Medical Physicist, Dean W., this week for his outstanding contributions to the field and the Cancer Center team. Medical Physicist Day is celebrated on November 7.

Thank you to all of our hardworking professionals for all they do! 👏

Exciting news! On Tuesday, November 4, Wood County Hospital celebrated the opening of our new Progressive Care Unit (PCU).

The PCU provides an intermediate level of care for patients who need more support than those on the regular acute care floor, but who do not require the intensive care of an ICU. Located within the ICU and staffed primarily by ICU RNs, the unit officially opened on September 9, but the staff celebrated this week.

This project was truly a hospital-wide effort. Thank you to the incredible teams from ICU, IT, Billing, Acute Care, Quality and Administration for their collaboration, and a special shoutout to the ICU RNs who helped develop the admission criteria and patient care workflow!

Did you know? About 38 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 in 5 are unaware they have the disease, according to the CDC.

𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝟭 diabetes happens when your body doesn’t make enough insulin and can develop at any age.

𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝟮 diabetes occurs when your body can’t use insulin properly. It is the most common type, and most cases can be prevented.

We are pleased to welcome Mark Nadaud, D.O., to the Bowling Green Family Physicians team!

Dr. Nadaud brings more than 30 years of experience in family medicine and a strong commitment to patient-focused care. He is board-certified in family medicine and has dedicated his career to helping patients understand their health and take an active role in their care.

Before joining WCH, Dr. Nadaud worked in private practice in Genoa, Ohio, and later served veterans at the VA. With extensive experience in outpatient care, emergency medicine and wound care, he also provided care at St. Luke’s, St. Charles and Bay Park hospitals. He is a graduate of the Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery. He has also served as a clinical professor for Ohio University and the Medical College of Ohio, sharing his dedication to high-quality, compassionate medicine with future physicians.

November is 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵. 🫁 Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in the U.S., responsible for about 1 in 5 cancer deaths, according to the American Cancer Society.

Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, contributing to about 80% of cases. Quitting, or avoiding exposure to secondhand smoke, is one of the most effective ways to reduce your risk.

You can also protect yourself by limiting exposure to radon, asbestos and other known cancer-causing agents.

Because symptoms often don’t appear until later stages, early detection can save lives. The American Cancer Society recommends yearly lung screenings for adults ages 50 to 80 who currently smoke or used to, and have at least a 20 pack-year history of smoking.

As a nonprofit hospital, this is incredible for our patients and our community!
