October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a reminder that help and hope are out there.

Here in the Barren River area, BRASS (Barren River Area Safe Space) provides free and confidential support for victims.

That includes a 24-hour crisis hotline, an emergency shelter, and programs to help survivors rebuild their lives.

If you or someone you know is in danger, BRASS is available 24/7 at 1-800-928-1183. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is reachable at 1-800-799-7273 or by texting BEGIN to 88788.

Did you know that Chelsea Bray, an RN at WKU Health Services, is a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner)? A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is a highly trained and specialized registered nurse who provides compassionate and comprehensive care to patients who have experienced sexual assault or abuse.

Do you need to see a SANE nurse outside of our operating hours? The Medical Center at Bowling Green is a SANE Ready Hospital and has 24/7 SANE coverage in its Emergency Department. The Medical Center at Bowling Green Emergency Department is located at 250 Park Street, Bowling Green, KY 42101.

📣 Telehealth appointments are available Monday through Friday, from 9am to 3pm, during Summer Hours (5/15/25-8/15/25). These appointments are best for non-emergent issues that do not require a physical assessment or procedures.

🧑‍⚕️Telehealth services are also well-suited for follow-up care, chronic condition management (including asthma, allergies, hypertension, diabetes, etc.), prescription refills, and addressing routine health concerns (such as cold symptoms, skin rashes, etc.). Providers can order tests as needed, including labs, imaging, and micro tests.
