If I have ever told you to take a deep breath or to remember to breath during you massage, here's just a few reasons why! (& it's not just because oxygen is cool)

🙌Increases relaxation-- Deep Breathing can activate your parasympathetic nervous system (AKA your "rest & digest" system) This decreases stress levels and aids in muscle relaxation.
🙌Increases oxygen flow to the muscles. Which aids in releasing tension & increasing the effectiveness of the massage therapists work.
🙌Improves Circulation - Increasing the oxygen flow through the bloodstream aids in the repair of the muscle and release of toxins in the area.
🙌Reduces pain & discomfort- breathing through tight or tender areas helps manage discomfort and can prevent you from guarding or subconsciously tensing up.
🙌Communicate with your therapist - Your breath is a form of communication with you therapist. Deep, rhythmic breathing is a sign that we are using appropriate pressure and that you are feeling relaxed. Quick, shallow breathing is a sign that you are stressed and we maybe using to much pressure of need to take a different approach.

These are just a few reasons why breathing during your massage is so important. If you feel that you are having to hold your breath or grit your teeth, something needs to change & please be open with your therapist about that.

If you haven't take a truly relaxing & deep breath in a while, I encourage you to sit & do it now. Breath deep by allowing the breath to expand your diaphragm and into you belly & slowly exhale. Then notice the difference in how you feel.

Prenatal Massage + the Benefits

I have had the privilege of working with many pregnant mommas lately & I wanted to drop some info on prenatal massage because it is such a good experience for both mom & baby.

Some Simple benefits
Reduces Joint Pain & Stiffness - massage can decrease the tension that is put on the joints as the body shifts during pregnancy
Decrease Swelling - massage supports healthy circulation & lymphatic flow to decrease swelling.
Improve sleep & relaxation - massage can help to calm the nervous system & lower stress levels
Prepare the body for labor - massage can help maintain flexibility in the hips and low back

How we make massage comfortable along the way - It’s no secret that during pregnancy it becomes uncomfortable/impossible to lay down flat on your back or stomach so we have options when it comes to keeping you comfortable.
Pregnancy Bolster - The most popular option - this makes it practical & comfortable for you to lay face down as you progress through pregnancy. Creating a cozy spot for the bump to sit while your body is fully supported.
Side lying - Lying on your side with a few pillows to provide comfort and support.
Reclined - I am blessed to have the ability to adjust the table so if you’d prefer to be in a seated position, we can tilt the table back up to create that support for you.

Some fun tips I’ve learned from you all
KT tape is a blessing for swollen feet & tapping for back/belly support when experiencing pelvic pressure.
Sitting on a tennis ball and rolling out the glutes can help a ton with hip & sciatic pain.
