Last night was one of those moments that makes you pause for a second…

I was honored to receive 2026 Business #1 in Momentum for Berks County.

If I’m being real—this didn’t happen overnight.
It’s been a lot of conversations, a lot of showing up, a lot of figuring things out as I go… and a lot of genuinely caring about the people I work with.

Because at the end of the day, this business isn’t just about insurance.
It’s about making sure people don’t end up in a situation that financially breaks them—especially when they did everything right.

There were times I questioned if I was doing enough…
If I was growing fast enough…
If people really understood the value I bring.

This award reminded me—momentum doesn’t always feel fast when you’re in it.
But it’s happening.

To my clients, referral partners, and everyone who has trusted me along the way—thank you. You’re the reason this matters.

And Berks County… we’re just getting started 💚

When Can You Change Your Health Plan Outside Open Enrollment?

Life doesn’t always stick to an insurance calendar and thankfully, your coverage doesn’t have to either.

You can make changes to your health plan outside of Open Enrollment if you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE), such as:
💍 Getting married (or divorced)
👶 Having or adopting a baby
💼 Starting a new job or losing coverage from a previous one
🏠 Moving to a new state or coverage area
🎓 Turning 26 and aging off a parent’s plan

These moments trigger a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), usually lasting 60 days, giving you the chance to update or choose new coverage that fits your changing life.

If one of these events happens, don’t wait. Reach out and we’ll walk you through your options to make sure you stay covered through every life change.

That’s the power of group health insurance — shared strength, shared protection.

When one of our long-time members reached out in frustration after her prescribed hormone therapy injections were repeatedly denied as “experimental,” we knew she needed more than sympathy; she needed advocacy.

Her pills were covered, but the injections, medically necessary and time-sensitive, were not.

Our team went to work:
📂 Gathered medical records from her doctor, psychiatrist, and therapist
🔎 Identified an alternate diagnosis code that supported coverage for the same medication
📝 Presented a detailed appeal backed by medical necessity and precedent

The insurer authorized the treatment in full, saving our client thousands in out-of-pocket costs and ensuring she received the care she needed without delay.

This is what real advocacy looks like. At Houtz Insurance, we fight for fair coverage and real outcomes.

Why Strong Benefits Still Matter Even When Costs Rise 💪

Yes, health insurance costs are going up but cutting benefits isn’t the answer.

Here’s why:
💙 Retention: Employees are more likely to stay when they feel cared for. Strong benefits build loyalty and trust.
💙 Recruitment: In today’s job market, benefits often tip the scales. Candidates will choose stability and support over a slightly higher paycheck.
💙 Productivity: Healthy employees miss fewer days and bring more energy to their work.

Even as costs shift, offering quality coverage is an investment, not an expense. It shows your team that you value their well-being and their future.

We help small businesses design smart, sustainable benefits that attract and retain top talent without breaking the budget.

Because when your team thrives, your business does too.

Nearly 20,000 PA residents dropped their health coverage in just February alone.

Losing coverage doesn’t just mean missing doctor visits. It can lead to skipped prescriptions, delayed care, and unexpected medical debt that hits hard. Health insurance isn’t just a benefit; it’s a lifeline.

👉 If you’re a business owner not offering health coverage, your employees could be at risk. The good news? There are creative, affordable ways to protect your team and your bottom line.

Let’s talk about how to keep your people covered because healthy employees build healthy businesses.

When it comes to employer-sponsored health insurance, both employers and employees share the cost. But do you know how that really breaks down?

Here’s a quick look:
🔹 Employers typically cover the majority of the premium, often 70–80% of the total cost for employee-only coverage.
🔹 Employees pay the remaining share through payroll deductions, which can vary depending on plan type, family size, and company contribution levels.

For example, if a health plan costs $600/month, an employer covering 75% would pay $450, while the employee contributes $150.

Those numbers might not seem big month-to-month, but they add up. And the right contribution strategy can make a huge difference in affordability and retention.

We help businesses find that balance, offering competitive benefits that keep costs fair for everyone.

💰 Pennsylvania workers are paying more than ever for employer-sponsored health insurance and it’s hitting both employees and small businesses hard.

A new report from The Commonwealth Fund found that the average Pennsylvanian with single coverage spent more than $4,000 on premiums and deductibles in 2024, nearly 10% of their annual income. For families, costs climbed past $10,000 a year.

When one out of every ten dollars goes to health care, tough choices follow, from skipping doctor visits to delaying prescriptions.

As costs rise, more employers are exploring creative solutions like association-based health strategies, ICHRA options, and customized group plans to stay competitive and keep coverage affordable.

At Houtz Insurance, we help businesses find those smarter paths, balancing affordability, quality, and care. If these rising costs are impacting your team, let’s talk about ways to protect your people and your bottom line. 💬
